The Mirror Marshes of Murtinnth
A place of distinct infamy, the Mirror Marshes rarely find the company of spacefarers or strays. It was a once all but unknown locale until the far reaches of Murtinnth were rediscovered by the crew of a faulty ship, the Abiding Echo, who were forced to make an emergency landing. The blackbox of the ship has not been recovered, though the crew's distress calls remain on permanent record and are available for examination at the Royal Archives.
Geography
The Mirror Marshes are located on a thin stretch of land bordering a thrashing sea and the more inhabitable but no less desolate lands of Murtinnth. Thus, they are continuously battered by the din of the relentless waves and stirred up by the accompanying gusts. What makes the Mirror Marshes so distinct, however, lies not in its location, but in the strange nature of the sand that sweeps back in forth in the tides of wind and water. The ubiquitous grains are reflective, as if they've been individually backed by silver. En mass, they create a coastline of shifting chrome that mirrors everything above such that an unfortunate visitor to the marshes would be unable to tell up from down were it not for the presence of their own reflection staring back at them.
The water that laps up at this reflective shore is no less enigmatic in where it stops and starts. Nearly untouched by civilizations for millennia, it remains free of pollutants and color and shifts as nothing more than a faint mirage above the sands as the waves crash almost silently against it. Further out beyond the horizon of the marshes, the sea begins to develop murk as it is tossed about in perpetual storms.
Fauna & Flora
Besides the unnerving atmosphere of the marshes themselves, the fauna is what keeps the Reflective Stretch from becoming swamped by galactic inhabitants searching for geographic curios. The creatures themselves have never been able to be properly classified, and all that remains accountable for their existence is the distress call from the lost crew of the Abiding Echo. The reports are not considered scientifically sound as they were recorded under audible emotional and physical distress. They proceed as follows:
We can't see the [expletive] things! They [audible metallic warbling] [expletive] They're coming closer. They already ripped apart the captain. Tore right through the cockpit and dragged her out before we could blink. Its like they're made from the same stuff as this whole [expletive] place. They're invisible. We cant [audible metallic shrieking and snaps] [Warning: hull compromise] [expletive] [expletive] [Warning: foreign entities detected] [audible screaming] [Loss of signal]There have been no reports of flora found in the area.
