Yhaunn

For centuries, Yhaunn was better known as The City of Magic. It was said that the city was enchanted with magical energy that drifted off of the Sea of Fallen Stars, funneled into the city by the hills and mountains that surrounded it. Hundreds quested here to study at the many arcane colleges, or for a chance to be an apprentice to the many Wizards and Sorcerors that called Yhaunn their home.
133 years ago, the city exploded in a cataclysmic torrent of arcane energy. Large chunks of land were ejected into the air, where many still remain today. Almost all of the inhabitants were killed. Today, the weave itself appears to have been permanently altered, as spells now misfire or fail entirely while within the ruins of the city.
Some say it was the result of an overly ambitious spell gone violently wrong. Others say it was caused when Mystra, the Goddess of Magic, was slain by Helm. Dozens of theories and accusations persist to this day.
After the Whispering War, Exaltia withdrew its small presence from the city. The city has since become a favorite spot of criminals, smugglers, or others who seek refuge from Exaltia's laws.
In addition: explorers and wizards now come here to try to unearth some of the magic that might have once been studied here. Yhaunn Base Camp now acts as a hub for the many expeditions. Locals refer to the many taverns and pubs as powderkegs, where grumpy wizards and boorish explorers and cash-strapped locals clash and fight.
Adventure and magical artifacts await: though you'll find it among the unruly locals, the alternating dead and wild magic zones, and the rubble of ancient Mage Towers.
