Here Kitty Kitty
It was someone's grandmother's best friend's cat. It had wandered out into the woods one day when a careless child had left the gate open, and it's mistress, poor old thing had wandered into those woods calling after it.
"Here Kitty Kitty" came the voice, all through the night. Wandering through the town, out into the forest. "It's just old Ms. So-and-so," parents would say "Never you mind her."
but your conscience wouldn't let you leave the old woman in distress.
"Here kitty kitty" came the call in the darkness. "Here kitty kitty" the frail voice called.
You snuck from your bed, and used your window to sneak out, you would help her find the cat. "Here kitty kitty" you whispered into the night, not wanting to get caught out.
"Here Kitty Kitty" came the woman's voice as if in reply.
"Here Kitty Kitty," you whispered back a bit louder this time, and then you saw it, movement on a nearby building. A definite cat shape! What was that cat's name again? "Here Kitty Kitty" you called after it!
"Here Kitty Kitty" Maybe old, what's-her-name had heard you because she sounded closer, but the cat would be long gone by the time her frail old legs got there.
"Pss..psss...Pss" you called sibilantly as you stalked toward the shadows between the two buildings. "Come on old.... um..." "Here Kitty Kitty" came the call again and you forgot about naming the wayward cat.
"Here Kitty Kitty" you intoned to the shadows.
"Here Kitty Kitty" They replied.
Two red lanterns swam into view at the end of the lane. Red orbs providing just enough light to see the swish of a tail and the form of a cat bent down licking at something on the ground.
"Here Kitty Kitty" You called as you inched closer, not wanting to spook the poor, frail creature.
"Here Kitty Kitty" you heard, the voice of the old woman nearing, it sounded like she was just down the alley, good, she could corner the cat and together you could.
"Here Kitty Kitty" Came your voice now, unbidden. You hadn't wanted to say it, you hadn't wanted to spook the shadowy form bent down licking up something on the floor.
"Here Kitty Kitty" it replied in the voice of the old woman.
"Here Kitty Kitty" you answered in the same singsong tone, feet moving closer and closer to form.
