History

The word "Valgbryte" comes from The Old Tongue and roughly translates as 'breaking choices' or 'the one who breaks choices'.
There are more stories of valgbryte than there have ever been valgbryte. The oldest stories say that there was once a time when the Gods of The Nomads made a mistake. To rectify this error in judgment, Aamu of the Morning gifted a mortal with the chance to reverse a decision they had made. This was the first valgbryte.

Role

The role is not one which a person chooses, it chooses them. While many see it as a blessing, those who experience it would be forgiven for seeing it as a curse.
A valgbryte is able to experience multiple outcomes of certain choices they make. This only happens for high-stakes choices, usually where there is a life on the line or the decision is life-altering. They live all of the outcomes, which means that even if they go through and make a decision which saves a life, they are forced to live all of the choices - including every death, whether their own or someone else's.
It is a powerful but brutal and unpredictable skill.

Reputation

Those born as valgbryte are thought of by the Nomads as blessed by the gods. They have been chosen and have the ability to do great things. Fewer than one is born every hundred years, and as such they are known by the stories that are told of them. They are thought of as heroes.

However, people who are valgbryte often operate on the outskirts of a community. They avoid creating too many strong connections with people because once you've seen a loved one die, you don't want to experience that again.
