Soon after the development of the first settlements of the people of the The Wunderlunds , the spirits return to the lands. It's unknown what triggered them to return at this time. They are seen in the plains, the forests, the waters, and amongst the stars.
The Spirits are determined to be mostly pacifistic. When they are seen, they generally retreat deeper into their respective biomes. Some appear to bond with the world around them, shaping it in strange ways.
Spirits are discovered to sometimes form bonds with inanimate objects. That, or they are born within them. Folk in the The Wunderlunds begin to try to pay respects to the spirits within the things around them, forming something akin to a religion.
As the Wunder-folk continue to explore an old world new to them, they find knowledge of the ancient ways from before the Myst. They learn of the old religions and their gods. This begs the question. What happened to the gods? Have they abandoned this world in the era of the Myst?
Over the years, the folk of the Wunderlunds begin to develop a culture of tradition. It was spurred on by two primary factors. Firstly, the people's desire to form new memories with one another after the world had lost so much of it. It helped to bond them with each other and the world around them. This bonding led to the second factor: it seemed to produce unity with the spirits. Whether new spirits were born from the traditions or merely attracted to them, spirits inhabited the objects of tradition and seemed to bless them.
The Caligni emerge from the Underlunds , claiming to have memories of the world before the Myst, and power from it. They say they preserved the old ways by escaping the Myst underground and with the protection of the Forsaken. They try to convert people to their ways of living in the deep.
The Caligni skirmish with the folk of the The Wunderlunds in an effort to force their ways upon them to serve the Forsaken . Bands of adventurers and heroes fight them back into the Underlunds .
Strange beasts begin to appear in the wilderness of the The Wunderlunds . These creatures seem like warped, sometimes monstrous, sometimes beautiful, versions of existing creatures. It is discovered that these creatures are transformed by spirits of all sorts as if forming some sort of symbiotic or parasitic relationships.
The Caligni have re-emerged from the Underlunds . They have begun to recruit young people from the local town with promises of power and immortality for serving the Forsaken
