There are no people that I have ever read of, or met face to face that did not have both a creation myth and some sort of prophecy of the future. The myth of creation of the Leporah seems to have been lost to time, but there are sections of texts that speak of glowing beings of light that the Leporah held in high esteem. The beings offered knowledge to the Leporah and were apparently the first to guide them to the power of the runes. I myself have never witnessed such a being, so if they did exist at the time of the Leporah, they must also be gone. That is if they ever were more than a myth to begin with. I will freely admit that these are long conclusions I have drawn from mostly fragments of knowledge that reference even older fragments.
In regards to their prophecies of the future, there are still a few books that can be found, that speak of other, much older books that discuss still older tablets that hold the Prophecies of the Leporah. Where these tablets might be is beyond my knowledge but the nice thing about stone is that it tends to stick around a lot longer than paper and if I had my guess, those tablets will be around much longer than even this text that I write now.
At this time the information I possess on what is written on these tablets is extremely vague. The renown miner and geologist Ceol I once wrote of having discovered an ancient scroll that lay on a stone desk with in a stone room. The room itself was completely encased in a granite vein that Ceol I was exploring. Any geologist worth his salt (no pun intended) would know that meant
Page 2
two things. First in order to encase the room completely as it did, the granite would have to be molten. And second, to survive the process, the stone room would have to be harder and with a higher melting temperature than granite. This story could never be verified, however, unlike his successor Ceol II, the first was not prone to wild fancy.
Though Ceol I was said to have brought the scroll with him, he was never able to find the stone room again due to a mudslide. This scroll was studied as much as the decay allow, though it was already very old when recovered, and Ceol I being a miner and not a scholar despite writing many books, did not know how to properly preserve the scroll when he recovered it, and by the time anyone with the proper knowledge got to it, the damage had been done and the elements had already begun to cause irreversible wear.
This scroll had clues to the location of the Prophecy tablets and it is this scholar’s opinion, that the room Ceol found was the entrance to some kind of ancient storage room that likely held more than just those tablets. All that is still known as to the location of that storeroom and the wealth of knowledge and who knows what else within, resides in the message of that now rotten scroll. As best anyone was able to read off the scroll, the finest scholars of many generations agree it said this:
“Leporah il Rah v Leporah ili Pol. Ara pol v foe i rhofoe Leporah zel v zal trola. Ara rholor Lepozal tro...”
It is a simple enough translation. “The People of the Light came from light and will go to darkness. In the shadow and fire of the
Page 3
volcano the past and the future of the People of the Light will meet. In the mountain the People of the Future will be “action”...”
The last two characters of the last word could never be identified and they could change the meaning of the root so much, one could not reasonably speculate. There was certainly more on the scroll that was unable to be read and I think it was just the beginning of the prophecy though the exact position of the section of text within the scroll was also unable to be recovered.
Though I am an old man, I personally know of no volcanoes within the region of Akgaf Ziv and have found no reference to such in any text or manuscript I have come across. I however am convinced that anyone who would find that volcano would find that storeroom eventually.
Beyond that, the scroll spoke of the Leporah coming from the light and going to the shadow, so even then it appears that they were referencing their creation and were predicting their demise. This scholar, however, does not necessarily believe they predicted the coming of the Lizard People specifically, and only some unknown and unforeseeable demise in the future. It finally goes on to speak of the past and future meeting, to which I assume leads to the result of the People of the Future, the Lepozal and something else using the root word “action”.
What this could possibly mean is anyone’s guess. Did they believe they would be reincarnated? Did they believe they would ascend to another plane of existence? Perhaps they were only speaking metaphorically in that their memories were the People of the Future, acting should this storeroom be found. The Leporah truly did believe the invasion of the Lizard People was
Page 4
their end and though they did everything they could to fight it in the many years of war between the two peoples, I believe that when the Lizard People were at the gates of Rakshdal, the Leporah had already resigned to their fate.
Though not everyone was resigned to just let the sea of Lizard People wash over them. A few people did not accept their fate and left the city. Though they were branded as cowards and deserters by those who stayed, they, at least, lived for a bit longer to assure the legacy of the Leporah would be found.
Places like that storeroom exist for that very reason. They hoped that one day in the future, their knowledge would be rediscovered. The Leporah were always teachers, even to their last and it was very admirable. It is because of these few that we still have more than just Leporah school tablets and stone guides to this day. It is these unknown Leporah who deserve high praise as they did not even take credit for their work, for the most part, as the teaching was the most important. In their culture, if they could pass along their knowledge and that knowledge continued to grow and bring more knowledge, than so would they. They believed that they were more than just their bodies and that a piece of themselves floated along the aether with every idea or thought they were a part of.
I put this out there to anyone who may read this book, spread knowledge of the existence of the Prophecy of the Leporah so that one day the storeroom that Ceol I spoke of would be found and we could have a greater understanding of this wonderful and ancient people.
