The National Nuzun State

Once, long ago, Nuzun was the dominant power on the eastern half of the continent, the Kingdom's of Onalean, Lexan and Kanathalon long paid tribute and lip service to the Mighty Kingdom, Waltontef was forced into a humiliating position as a client state to the Kingdom, and the Dorranian's were only just able to oppose their invasion when they fully united. But then came the Republican Revolution, and after it the Glorious National Revolution, which brought about the National State, which now stands as the shadow of the once great nation.

A History

The Kingdom

In the year 432, in the city of Hathford, Duke Richard III crowned himself King Richard I of the new Kingdom of Nuzun, for the next 8 years he would go on a series of conquests against his neighboring Nuzun realms, his most notable territorial acquisition was when he successfully gained the oaths of loyalty from the Chamber of Commerce in the City of Tetford, opening the gates of trade and wealth to pour into his new realm.
Besides Tetdord, all other Nuzun realms were acquired by King Richard, along with a marriage alliance with the King of Lexan by marrying his daughter, he also forced the Thet hosts into submission, turning them into an elite core of shock calvary and horse archers for his army, then using them to subjugate their northern cousins the Chivgat, fracturing their realm into several smaller subject states.
The New Kingdom, despite its impressive conquests, lived in a constant state of instability, with the monarchy having to put down constant revolt from all corners of its realm, even while it tried to force its way onward into further conquest. Such as in 657 when it and Lexan launched a joint invasion into the lands of the Barqa, dividing the lands between themselves and beginning a mass destruction of their cultural identities.
Eventually, the kingdom would meet its downfall in the year 816, when the Revolution began.

The Revolution

The City of Clamore, located in the Barqa region of the Kingdom, in the year 816, forces of the 8th Royal Rifles Regiment marched upon the city council chambers, supported by local militias and the 18th Free Barqa Battalion. Upon the steps of the City Council, Colonel Henry Brown, the commanding officer of the 8th Royal Rifles, alongside Séan O'Boyle, the commander of the 18th Free Barqa, declared their intention to march upon Hathford and depose the monarch of Nuzun, King James the IV.
What many considered a foolhardy move by radical military officers, soon spiraled as the military forces sent to suppress the revolt, under the leadership of the War Hero and Thet General Prokhor Antonov, instead switched sides and effectively brought the entire 3rd Army under Revolutionary control. Following this defection, the Rebel and Monarchist forces began to clash across the nation in a desperate gamble to secure the loyalty of neutral military units and secure important positions across the nation,
After 3 months of fighting, Revolutionary forces under the command of Colonel Henry Brown, aided by Thet rebels under the command of Khay Ryder Vladimir Kozlov, who had successfully rallied the Thet Hosts against the Nuzun Monarchy and joined the revolutionary forces, marched upon the city of Hathford and forced the King and his supporters to flee northeast, with the revolutionary forces now in control of the capital.
Following the Defeat of the monarchists in the capital, the Revolutionary leaders, including General Prokhor Antonov, Colonel Henry Brown, Commander Séan O'Boyle, Khay Ryder Vladimir Kozlov, along with Hornwich partisan leader Zilar Oteiza and Chivgat Nationalist Rodion Novikov, gathered together to decide the fate of the new Nation. Eventually, the fate would be left to the people under revolutionary rule, with an announcement being held for a grand election that would leave the very destiny of Nuzun to the masses.
General Prokhor and Colonel Brown would join together to formulate the National Republican Party, promising a Republican Federal State to bring democratic reform and rule to the many peoples of the Kingdom. The Khay Ryder Kozlov and Chivgat Nationalist Rodion formed the International Freedom Party, demanding that upon the conclusion of the Revolution, the many nations with Nuzun would break off to form their own state, leaving 5 nations where there was one 1. Finally, the Commander O'Boyle and Partisan Zilar formulated the Representative Party, demanding that upon the conclusion of the Revolution, Nuzun would reform into a Grand Confederacy of mutual economic and military existence for the 6 national people's within Nuzun.
While the Revolution still raged across the nation, the 3 main parties would wage a war for the very soul and future of the nation for a 2-month period. Upon the conclusion of that 2-month period, the voting ended, the votes were counted, and results were broadcasted across the nation to the people, and the results were a surprise to all. 68% of the vote went to the National Republicans, with the military exploits of General Prokhor and Colonel Brown, both before and during the election, gave them massive national fame while other leaders were mostly ineffective in the later months of the war.
Upon the NRP victory, the revolutionary forces would launch a new offensive of the remaining monarchists, and after another 6 months of fighting, the remaining loyalists would be forced across the border into the Kingdom of Lexan, the revolution would end, and the Republic would officially be declared on April 18th, the 1-year anniversary of when the 8th Royal Rifles and 18th Free Barqa seized control of the city of Clamore, ending the glorious revolution where is started, on the steps of the Clamore council chambers.

The New Republic

On April 19th, 817, in the capital city of Hathford, a grand convention was convened to draft a new constitution for the Republic, what followed was a grueling 4-month affair, everything from the exact wording of the preamble, the flag and name of the state to the currency, the very extent of the power of the state, and everything between. After 4 months, the Constitution of the Republic was completed, and revelaed to the general public.
The Constitution of the New Republic established for the republic, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, Freedom of the Press, Freedom of Political Association, the Right for citizens to arm and organize militias to resist foreign invasion and as described in the constitution "Organize and take up arms against the tyranny brought about by the State". Despite the general freedoms found in the constitution, it would also attempt to mandate State Atheism and declared any and all form of religious worship as a crime punishable at a minimum of 30 years in prison, however such a power was ultimately hindered by the Federal Free States, autonomous minority regions which were permitted to ignore certain federal laws and sections of the constitution, including state atheism. Along with this mandate, the Constitution enshrined with Article 8 the power of the president, with a simple majority in the National Assembly, to not simply suspend parts of the constitution, but fully alter the constitution permanently unless altered by the president or a constitutional assembly.
Despite this extreme flaw within the republic's founding document, the early years of the republic would be prosperous, President Prokhor would serve as the nation's president for 3 terms of 6 years. During his time as president, he saw the radical expansion of a new social security service, extensive welfare programs, the institution of equality between men and women and oversaw the establishment of quotas to fill government positions with a diverse assortment of men, women and ethnic group. Along with these programs, he oversaw a massive military expansion and modernization, with Nuzun establishing an air force and modernizing its fleet from outdated ironclads to proper modern ships.
Eventually President Prokhor would no longer serve the republic, On November 18th 835, the night before the official results of the Republic's 5th election, which many expected to be another National Republican Party Landslide, President Prokhor would die of a heart attack in his office, overseeing a draft of a new law concerning tax policy. His Death would be regarded as the beginning of the end, as the seams of the republic began to unravel and the NRP would fracture.
With his death, Prokhor's Vice President, a Conservative by the name of Orson Byrd, would take his place in the presidency, his ascension sent the party into a scramble, with many demanding he appoint leader of the party's progressive wing, Gresham Quinn to the vice presidency, to rebalance the executive between the conservative and progressive factions of the party. Instead, he appointed long time conservative, War Hero and Prokhor's first Vice President Henry Brown. This enraged the Progressives of the Party, and the NRP began to collapse.
Under the leadership of Gresham Quinn, the Progressive Wing of the party abandoned the NRP and united with the Progressive Party to form the National Republican Progressive Party, which laid claim to the title as the true successor of the Revolutionary Era NRP. While the Parties Left Wing fled the party, the right wing, now in control of the NRP, began to fracture. Moderate Conservatives under Orson and Henry remained united under the NRP banner and name, but far right radicals and militarists abandoned the NRP and joined with smaller right-wing groups to form the National Republican Reconstruction Party, claiming to be the true successors of the NRP.
Within 4 years, the NRP under Byrd would roll back many welfare and social programs, taxes were cut on companies, equality quotas in the government were reduced and moves were made to reverse equal voting rights for women within the Republic. Military spending was radically increased, countless other programs were cut back and many of the progressive's polices were removed from the party platform and replaced with what many called reactionary.
In the election of 839, 3 Parties battled for control of the presidency, the NRPP, NRP and NRRP. In a tense situation not seen since the days of the revolution, political violence was at an all-time high as not just the 3 parties, but dozens of minor parties participated from across the nation. Paramilitaries clashed in the streets, acts of political terror was committed on party property and the major parties launched constant smear campaigns against each other.
Eventually, the election came to an end, but the results were inconclusive, no party got even close to a majority, and no possible political coalition could secure the votes and power to get a president. This standstill would be 'resolved' when President Byrd would, using the powers of article 8 to alter the constitution, design a process that if any party or political coalition failed to get enough votes to secure a majority, the president in office at the time gets to appoint his replacement, and Byrd simply named himself his own replacement.
Before the news of his move became public, the allies of the NRRP within the NRP informed the leadership of the party, who moved quickly and mobilized the party Paramilitary, known as the Goldshirts, and began to march across the capital. What was viewed as a mass demonstration turned into a power grab, within an hour the Goldshirts began to storm government buildings and seize control of vital positions across the city.
By the days end Hathford along with the leadership of the NRP were under control of the NRRP, who proclaimed they were the legitimate government and the rightful victors of the 839 Election.

The National State

That day led to a civil war that would last for just over a year, but the consequences of the conflict would be catastrophic for Nuzun. The Barqa, Horwich, Thet and Chivgat would break away and form their own independent nation states, the City of Tetford would declare independence and restore their freedom lost when they submitted to the monarchy.
Nuzun proper would be greatly reduced in size and strength, with the economy collapsing and the nation in ruins from the civil war. the Ruling NRRP, rebranded as the True National Republican Party, would reorganize Nuzun as a one-party state.

National Nuzun Government

The Nuzun Government under the TRNP has been organized into a one party, Totalitarian State under the leadership of Party Head Hadwin Obrien, who holds the title of President and Party Chancellor.
The National Assembly has been, under the use of Article 8 by President Obrien, has been transformed into a rubber stamp for the decrees and acts of President Obrien and his Cabinet, who have invested to them the sole power and authority to propose and enact laws within the National State. This means that the assembly has become a place from which members of the party seeking a peaceful retirement or young up and coming members are sent to be out in the public light in an easy and simple posting.
Local Governance across Nuzun is handled by party deputies and leaders, who effectively organize local governments around not any form of official administration, but the party itself become the local government., more closely merging the duties and powers of the party and state. Everything from the courts to town mayors, local police forces, all forms of government institutions are effectively party institutions.
This dangerous merging of Party and State has permeated every facet of society in Nuzun, schools are run and staffed by party members, all nonparty affiliated media companies are outright banned for anti-government conspiracy, political opposition is outright banned, local institutions across the nation have either been hijacked or outright replaced by party institutions.
