Session 3: The Journey Continues Report
General Summary
Three days into the voyage all members of the party gained their sea-legs and became adjusted to sea travel. On the fourth day Captain Dynall called the party over to the portside rail and pointed off into the horizon. Looking off into the distance the party members saw the coast line some 10 or so miles out. The coastline was a mountain range that buttressed right up to the see. Looming over the dark grey mountains was a long hazy cloud of black smoke. From the distance it just appeared to be floating over the mountain tops shrouding it in gloom. The captain went on to explain that they were looking at the Drachenscrab Mountains and that plume of smoke was from the eruption of Flamenblut. It was the volcano that Suderham was built in. The same Suderham that was consumed in the eruption that occurred over a year ago that fateful day the adventures escaped the evil city and the wrath of the volcano, or at least that’s what the stories and songs say at least. It’s been spewing out smoke and ash ever since and can be seen for many miles in all directions. Realizing this the party however remained solemn and stoic about the matter, leaving boasting for fools and bragger, instead lamented in the horrid experience they were subjected to and barely escape from.
Several days later the ship experienced a listless day, or a day of no wind. Instead the shop tided over and floated on the current, until the tide returned. The crew took advantage of the opportunity to climb down in to the sea and bath while others stood on the watch. The party was getting bored and suffering from a bit of cabin fever, only half listening to the captain as he had pointed out the coast in the distance off the starboard side that was the lands of the Bright Desert, a wild and harsh arid land, home of tribes of Flan tribes who live nomadic lives in the harsh clime.
Suddenly there was a shout of alarm and just as the party members shook from their malaise and spun to force the port side they saw the great gaping maw of a colossal shark erupt from the water’s surface completely engulfing two swimming crewmembers and in an instant the sharks behemoth form crashed back into the water, having swallowed the two crew members whole. Shouts of alarm rose up as the remaining crew in the water began swimming as fast as they could to the side of the ships while other crew members began dropping large nets over the side to aid in the escaping crewmembers escape from the sea and to safety. As the members of the party made it to the port side of the ship the form of the melodeon shark was sweeping along the length of the ship from aft to bow its very top cresting the surface, its mouth open wide as it swallowed another two crewmembers as they were desperately trying to swim to the safety of the ship.
This time the party on the port side of the ship was able to react. Talya brought her deathwand crossbow up to her shoulder and launched two lightning bolts that arced across and scorched the sharks back. Armil casted down a column of divine flame that shot down from the heavens and burned the sharks flesh. Mys’tara stepped forth and casted disintegration, the green ray springing from her finger dissolving a large chunk of flesh. Tuddle casted a spell that caused a gout of water to rise up below two swimming crewmen flinging them up in the air and onto the safety of the deck. The shark, training a large cloud of blood submerged into the depths and out of view.
