Session 4: Battle with the Murderous Megalodon Report

General Summary

The party and the crew on the deck of the ship continued to help the rest of the crew-members out of the water, when the ship shook violently almost knocking everyone off their feet. Something had impacted the ship with great and determined force. “The shark is ramming us, we will take on water and sink” the captain shouted. “Everyone to arms and to the rails!”   Still concentrating on his spell Tuddle started to make his way to the aftcastle of the ship, while party and crew moved to the port and starboard edges of the ship, while Kysten scanned the ocean surface from his vantage point in the crow’s nest. Just as Tuddle arrived at the back of the ship Kysten and Cloudraker spotted the dark silhouette of the charging shark off the starboard side. “Shark, off the starboard side!” he yelled leveling his bow and taking aim at the approaching beast. Grondahl held his arm back, Thunderstrike held high and ready to throw. Just as the megladon’s dorsal fin broke the surface causing a great wake and contrail both Kysten and Grondahl let loose. Arrows and a streak of ball lightning stuck the exposed fin of the great shark and it a electrified, stunned, and frighten shark jerked to the side and dove for the deep just feet from the hull of the ship.   Just as the shark disappeared from sight the back of the ship started to rise as Tuddle, at the aft of the vessel, rose his hands and concentrated on raising a mound of water at the rear of the craft dipping its bow towards the service of the ocean and propelling it forward, as Tuddle strained to concentrate on both keeping the aft of the ship centered on the peak of the mound and the moving the protrusion of water forward, continuously propelling the ship forward. The ship rocked and jolted, rigging swaying and items not fixed rolling towards the bow of the ship. Crewmen and party members had to quickly grab at something fixed so they would not lose their grip, however Kysten’s wolf Docile slide down the deck of the ship and straight down the stairs to the galley below.   As gravity pulled at the ship at it started to accelerate the bow continued to dip closer and closer to the ocean surface while the frothing wake being cut by the keel of the ship threatened to flow over the forecastle. Mys’tara, at the bow of the ship, now soaked with sea-water, and holding on to the railing realized the cause of this recent event brewed with annoyance and frustration and called for Tuddle to stop and lower the back of the ship or risk capsizing it. However Tuddle attempting to concentrate on balancing the vessel responded saying to hold on until the duration of the spell.   While the others decided to hold on so they did not lose balance and slide down the deck, Talya, using her roguish skill and dexterity, made her way back to the aft of the ship, climbing up to the top of the aftcastle and making her way to Tuddle. Once there she explained to Tuddle that the threat of the great shark seems to have passed and that he risked flipping and maybe even sinking the ship. Not able to see the bow of the ship Tuddle decided to slowly lower the mound of water and bring the ship to rest on a flat surface.   Mys’tara made her way back to her cabin to dry off thoroughly upset at the dwarven cleric for what she felt was an unnecessary over-reaction. Meanwhile it was discovered that the jolts and violent rocking of the ship caused a couple of the parties horses to lose their footing and fracture their legs. Hearing this Tuddle rushed below to tend to and cast healing upon the horses mending their wounds and broken limbs. Eventually the anxiety and excitement over the encounter with the megladon passed and the crew, after memorializing their lost dead, returned to their duties and the next day saw a strong wind that got the ship back underway to the port of Hardby.
