The Sky Realm of Tebbor

While many don't believe, there exists a world in which islands of all shapes and sizes floats in a sea of clouds. Stretching high to the azure blue sky over the ominous depths of the Tempest Sea, carried by some unseen magical force; lies the Sky Realm of Tebbor. Once a grand floating continent advanced magics and civilization in age of Creation, myths say continent was smashed in a titanic battle between Gods and their titans during the Great Cataclysm. The pieces of this continent were left to drift into an orbit around the Maelstrom, a permanent storm of titanic proportions believed to have been created as part of the battle. But life flourishes across the islands both high above the waves, and below them. For generations the Maelstrom has remained a stable feature; but as of late, storms of greater strength, breadth, and regularity have buffeted the floating archipelago, raising concerns about what may actually be hidden behind the every spinning stormfront of the Maelstrom... The Sky Realm of Tebbor was once a single, massive, floating continent that was the realm of air, high in the clouds; a place of high magic dominated by Cloud and Storm Giants, Air elementals, Genasi, and other creatures during an age of Arcanum. Today, the fragments of the islands are held aloft by the remains of a material called Aetherquartz, with scattered homes, towns and skyports. Skyships and beasts of wing sail the winds and thermals, Clans of the Air Genasi ride sky waves on their gliders and skiffs, while dragons, sky bandits, and barbarians exert dominion over tiny fiefdoms in the sky. All the while the Maelstrom seems to grow more turbulent. Where once it had lain virtually dormant and calm, it now pulses with storms and slowly grows in breadth. No one knows what has caused this change, or what resides inside the storm for none come back. But as the crisis grows, more and more grow bold enough to try and find out.

An Island for Everyone

Resting out in the Tempest Sea, south of the Meridian Concord, the islands of the Sky Realm are as varied as the people who reside upon them. The islands spread out like an asteroid belt around the sun, some in tightly knit shoals of colliding rocks, or archipelagos of numerous small inhabited islands, others are large solitary bastions nearly nation sized in their own right. Slowly they all drift with the winds around the Maelstrom, ever pulling them in and throwing them away. But the islands also stretch up into the sky, creating a conical world, with those the top forming the island of the dry, but rich Solarsphere, down to those former islands with just enough Aetherquartz to keep from landing on the sea floor and float in an unseen orbit under the waves in the Hydrosphere. On the ocean surface lies a small chain of terrestrial volcanic islands, which, through the Port of Scanthi, is the launching point for almost all who come to visit this land of unparalleled wonder and majesty.   The realm was also once a paradise of advanced arcana, and much of those features remain. Vast portions of the old continent were once enchanted with a vast array of natural and unnatural biomes, and some of those still remain on as fragments of an old world. Islands of arctic snow, volcanic rock, or crystal forests dot the islands of the Skyrealm.

Skydwellers of the Realm

Within the flying shoals and archipelago of islands, a great many people have carved out an existence. The people that dwell among the islands call themselves Skydwellers. The Sky realm is sparsely populated in comparison to that of the land realms, with scare food and resources creating a challenge for growth. In antiquity, the continent was populated by Giants, Dragons, Genasi, Elementals, and more. But today, Aarakocra make up the largest share of the population on most islands, with Humans being the most populous on the largest of the islands. Almost any race is Esseas can be found in the larger ports of the sea and sky. Among the islands of the Oceano and Hydrosphere's; Tortles, Tritons, Sea Elves, Water Genasi, Naga and Aquatic Shifters make up the majority of the non human population. Among the ports and towns of the islands can be found a wide arrangement of species, although Human and Aarakocra are particularly common.   Economics within such a place take on a different important than on the land. Most islands cannot sustain themselves without some consistent flow of trade or ability to visit a market. Basic resources such as water, meat and grain are taken for granted by land dwellers are an extremely valuable commodity, so much so that water tokens make up one of the core currencies of the islands. The only thing more valuable than water to many of the islanders, is that of Aetherquartz. The magical rock which blesses the inhabitant with the power to traverse the skies, is also notorious dangerous to mine, for if you mine too much from and island, you may suddenly find it tipping end over end, or sinking beneath the waves of the Tempest Sea…
