The Bold Air Hussars

The Bold Air Hussars were the first of the Airship Renegade's assault platoons. After Captain XO 'borrowed' the experimental airship, named it the Renegade, and began a career of air piracy, he realized that he would need well trained infantry for a variety of purposes--boarding action, raids, defending the Renegade's home station, and anything else that required straight shooting. The BAH are organized in as a traditional platoon—three rifle squads and a weapons squad. Uniform regulations are loose, at best, as is standardization of weapons. Shotguns and boarding axes are popular. The Platoon Sergeant is an exemplar—6 feet 5 inches, long blond hair and a braided beard. Surprising no one, his nick name is Viking. The BAH excel in ship to ship boarding actions, in which the Renegade launches its cargo ornithopters and gliders. The BAH will force an entry and rapidly dominate the opposing crew, securing the vessel and allowing the Renegade to seize its prize. The Hussars, well practiced in this mission, finely tune the amount of violence required. Seizing an airborne pleasure yacht will likely require little more than yelling and few shoves. Seizing a Muscovite air frigate will require extreme violence of action. The Hussars maintain a friendly rivalry with the other assault platoons of the Renegade—the Glider Zouaves, the Dahlgreen Rifles, the Vespa Dragoons, as well as the Renegade’s specialist combat engineers, the Duke of Wick’s Own Sappers and Miners. The Hussars are well known as hard fighters and hard partiers. Many pubs and bars across the world have been casually disassembled by the Hussars blowing off some steam. They’re so effective at causing a ruckus that the Renegade has used their shenanigans as a distraction—put the Hussars in a bar, watch the place get torn apart, and while local law enforcement swarm the area looking to quell a riot, other Renegade elements will rob a bank, steal a yacht, loot a museum, or some other form of deviltry.
