Franciscas

A short Frankish throwing axe, commonly used from the 4th through 8th centuries.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Often used in pairs or with a shield and sword. One axe is thrown at the ground in front of the enemy, the weapon bounces in a predictable pattern and comes off of the ground spinning quickly at an upward angle making it hard to block or dodge. Because of its relatively heavy weight and sharp edge in can smash shields and do heavy damage to a person if it hits them. The axe is thrown first followed by the warrior charging up rapidly to follow up with an attack by their primary weapon (a sword or another francisca)
