Shadow General
Among the living dead there are those that are stronger, and retain some sense of self after death. One of these creatures is the Shadow General, an undead that was cursed in last months of its life, and slowly transformed into a creature that needs neither rest nor nourishments. They can often been seen leading undead armies, often under the command of some other being, such as a powerful necromancer, but sometimes they wander alone.
The thoughts of the Shadow General are often plagued by wrongs and injustices it feels it faced in life. They often search for a way to deal revenge against those that evoke these thoughts, looking for the person to kill them. While these undead can pass their curse on, their will to kill their chosen targets can be overwhelming, resulting in permanent death, instead.
Some creatures that face the Shadow General are unlucky enough to survive only to suffer through the curse that will eventually turn them into one. The curse is constantly fighting for control, and it requires a strong body to fight back. During the Night of Shadows and Night of Darkness, the battle is infinitely harder, but on occation, the spread of the curse is momentarily halted. It can only be removed with high-level magic, meaning most of those cursed have their fates sealed, as such practioners are hard to come by.
The progress of the curse is not painless nor a pleasant one. The wound that caused the curse refuses to properly heal, instead scarring black, the darkness spreading into the surrounding skin and veins. The creature is also prone to nightmares, plagued by memories and thoughts of unjustice and where it was betrayed and let down. Overtime, as the curse spreads, these thoughts refuse to leave it even during the waking hours.
When the curse has progressed to take over more than half of the creatures body, the darkness has spread far enough that it's hard to conceal.
At 75%, the creatures eyes start turning black, and the creature occasionally exudes misty like darkness, in the beginning from the area of the wound, later from the whole body.
At 90%, the creature is starting to get obsessed with its thoughts of revenge. By this point, its hearbeat is hardly noticeable, and it rarely blinks. Breathing, too becomes optional, as the body trancends from life to undeath. As the curse fully takes over, the creature forgets all goals it had in life, and bonds once so important lose meaning as it begins its search, killing all that step on its way.
