The Town of Hochoch

On the bend of a river sits the town of Hochoch and it's white citadel. A place of safety...

Demographics

1,200 humans, 500 elves, 250 halflings, and the rest divided among dwarves, gnomes, elves, half-elves, and half-orcs. Individuals of other races also appear occasionally.

Government

Stratocracy: A constitutionally and socially sanctioned, as well as politically dominant, military that nonetheless has strong meritocratic characteristics.

Defences

Hochoch boasts a well equipped but untested town guard, whose members maintain day-to-day order among the populace. The nearly 150 town guards answer to the local Knights of the Watch, who are honor-bound to uphold the laws laid down by the Commandant of the Guard. The Watchers are an elite force, overseeing the defense of the city walls and investigating serious crimes with religious zeal. The number of knights fluctuates due to reassignments, but usually hovers around 20.

Inns: The Horse and Shrew is probably the most popular establishment in Hochoch, overlooking the northern shore. The wealthier residents prefer The Silver Shield, a well-appointed inn with an extensive underground wine cellar. History

The sizeable rivertown of Hochoch, near the fork in the river Elbe, is the last navigable port on the river and a trading center for the surrounding countryside. Most goods heading into and out of central Mystmere must pass through the town.   Hochoch has a long tradition as a starting base for adventurers and explorers, and several stores provide supplies for long-term expeditions.   Hochoch main concerns are the safety of its trade routes. With the two main thoroughfares, down The Elbe River and along the road to Wilton, passing through the wilderness known as The White Forest and The Gloomhills and banditry is not uncommmon. There are no churches or temples within the Village's walls.
