Dwarf

Dwarves are a well known race, becoming associated with mountains and the underground, their history intertwined with grand citadels and superior architecture.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves reproduce from mating, conception leading to a pregnancy that is mch shorter than a Human pregnancy, only lasting an average of 32 weeks.

Growth Rate & Stages

Dwarves age at a much slower rate compared to some other races, spending the first 6 years of their lives as infants before becoming toddlers, then spending another 14 years before they even enter childhood. This slow growth leads to dwarves only being considered adults at 46.

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves are a versatile race, comfortable in temperate environments favoured by Humans and Elves but are known to inhabit an even wider spectrum of environments than the other races, known to setup their settlements in even the most hardy and dangerous environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves subside on a mostly omnivorous diet, but have grown to prefer meat to organic foods, but they don't mind a regular meal. This leads to the famed Dwarven feasts containing a wide array of juicy, often red, meats.

Behaviour

Dwarves are an incredibly sedentary race, preferring to stay within their borders and homes rather than explore the world, often causing them to form small but incredibly tightly woven communities.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dwarves are known to lean towards a more communal social structure, working together for their common cause in close-knit societies where a trusted member of their community leads them. This leads to Dwarven countries being much more stable compared to some other states because of their unified trust in eachother, but this falls off if the country grows beyond its small borders.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Because of Dwarven proficiency with mining, due to their darkvision and physique, they are known to be the target of mining camps looking for recruits, voluntary or not, leading to the mining industry being seen as having the Dwarves as the posterchildren.

Facial characteristics

Dwarves are known to have much more haggard features, wrinkling at a faster, relative rate, often bearing the appearance of an elderly dwarf from the age of roughly 150 onwards. Dwarves also have an iconic inclination to rapid hair growth, leading to their recognisable long, scraggly beards.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Dwarves originate from the World of Ukufa, populating the hills, mountains and underground. Dwarves are most often found in easily defendable, ore-rich environments where they can establish prosperous settlements.

Average Intelligence

Dwarves seem to have an average intelligence, comparable to Humans but, because of their long lives, are able to hone it to a much finer degree, eventually able to compare themselves to Elves in their knowledge and wiseness.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarves have normal senses, except for their highly tuned darkvision, which has been honed through millenia of evolution and adaptation to allow them the ability to traverse in some of the darkest environments unphased.
