When a spell is cast, the power within the Mana Crystal is tapped into, the metal of the Magic Conduit containing the heat as it releases energy to strengthen and hone spells, making them more powerful and volatile. If, however, a Magic Conduit is overused or care is not taken to control the intake of magic to the focus object then it can result in a Magic Overdose or the Magic Conduit overloading, resulting in a discharge of Magic-Based Energy.

Manufacturing process

The first stage of crafting a Magic Conduit is the refinement of Mana Crystals, transferring magical energy into one strengthened crystal to prepare it for encasement, requiring the aid of multiple craftsmen for higher quality results. During this stage, careful consideration is taken to avoid damaging or overcharging the Mana Crystal within. After the crystal has been refined, a metalworker begins to encase the crystal, encapsulating the ends and large parts of the crystal in a sturdy metal to protect against the crystal's use and provide a means of wearing it, such as a bail for a necklace.

Significance

For a mage, a Magic Conduit could mean the difference between being able to carry out their craft or being deprived of magic, providing a means to cast for most people with latent magic.
