Kobolds
Found on the Continent of Vastalia is a peculiar race of reptilians. Small creatures, Kobolds are typically between 2 and 3 feet tall. Being small and agile creatures, they are around 25 to 35 pounds in weight. Instead of skin, Kobolds have scales, which are typically a shade of red. However, it is noted that other colours do exist, ranging from muted greys and browns all the way to bright greens, blues and purples. These other colours are rather rare, and tend to be a genetic trademark of particular Clans of Kobolds. With longer snouts, sharp claws and teeth, and small horns protruding from the backs of their heads, Kobolds have been theorised to be related to both Lizardfolk and Dragons. These claims, however, all seem to be rumour and myth.
Kobolds can reproduce quite quickly, and are hatched from eggs that the females lay. Not much differentiates the male and female Kobolds, although males tend to have a slightly larger set of horns. With their quick reproduction comes quick development, and a Kobold will be fully matured by around the age of 6 years. It has never been discovered how old Kobolds can live to, as their small, fragile nature and lifestyle tends to lead to an early death. The working theory is a Kobold may live to 120 years old.
Being small creatures, Kobolds tend to be easy prey for larger creatures. However, a few features has helped the species to survive. A degree of nightvision allows them to spot predators at night, and being used to thriving in large groups has developed a form of pack tactics that comes naturally. A strange genetic memory all Kobolds seem to share is a fear of large areas of water. Kobolds will actively seek to avoid any rivers, lakes or oceans, although a small stream seems to be fine. Another rumour about the Kobold species say there is a lost Clan of Kobolds found in the darker places of the world that have developed wings, but this has never been confirmed by any researcher.
Origins of the Kobolds
Hailing from the continent of Vastalia, Kobolds are found all over the wilderness here. Usually lurking in caves and darker places, where they can utilise their improved vision better, it is rare Kobolds will be found within towns and cities, tending to avoid larger civilization.
Despite Kobolds being found all over the place, no one really knows where they come from. The nature of Kobolds and their scrappy lives has meant there is no oral or written history for the species. If the Kobolds were placed here by a long-lost God, if they were the result of magical experimentation or if they just popped out of the ground, no one really knows.
Finding Kobolds in the World of Varda
Kobolds are found all over Vastalia, often living in small villages they form around cave networks, in hills or in mountains. They tend to avoid the other species of the world, apart from if they decide to steal, raid or prove a nuisance to the locals. Seen as pests, there has been several attempts to wipe Kobolds from the face of Varda, but their numbers and wandering ways has proven this task is impossible. Kobolds can be found in the following countries of the world:
