The Kingdom of Arden

The Kingdom of Arden is a country found on the western side of Astiria.

History

Arden has stood as a kingdom for nearly 1000 years. Made up of 5 Provinces, it is roughly 95,000 square miles. Travelling from its northern border to its southern is said to take around 1 to 2 months walking, in good conditions. Before Arden, the land was split in to isolated kingdoms, empires and tribes. The differing races and cultures clashed constantly, threatening to bring about calamity and leave the land bare. Fortunately, a mighty hero and leader rose up to unite the land. One by one, each of the Provinces was bought under the sway of one Kingdom, and each pledged their loyalty to the new King. In honour of the hero of the lands, they named the newly formed country after him:   Arden.   As the Kingdom grew in power and structure, it came across other races. The Dwarves, in their mountain cities of Rhyk-Durgen, soon allied themselves with Arden. Many Dwarves chose to leave their ways behind, integrating themselves with Arden’s society.   The Wood Elves of Delestari, were not so welcoming to outsiders in to their forest realm. Skirmishes were had for many years before peace was made. This is still tentative, with outsiders being frowned upon. However, many Wood Elves are now found amongst the other races of Arden, making a living and working the lands throughout.   Years rolled on and the line of Arden persisted from the throne, found in the capitol city of Ardenholt. After 8 generations, Arden was prospering, having trade routes via land and sea to other exotic lands far away. But it would not last.   To the East, came a new foe. The lands in that direction had long been thought inhospitable, but from across the barren landscapes came the Orcs.   War was started between the Orcish Tribelands and Arden, which would last nearly a hundred years. The fighting was brutal, and the people suffered. Looking to end the constant fighting, King Mattheus the Second brokered a peace with the Orcish Tribes. This has now lasted nearly 50 years, with trading and an understanding flourishing. The pact is still tentative, with many in Arden still remembering the brutality of the Orcs. But for now, there is peace.
