Mazhunga

The God of Freedom

Mazhunga is the one who sets people free. He is the patron of all those imprisoned, either confined physically or in a situation from which they struggle to free themselves. It is because of this that he is the most popular of the forsaken among regular people and most hated by the world's administrative bodies and jailers, who see him as a supporter of criminals and bemoan his habit of setting dangerous bandits loose on the world.

Escape

Being the world's greatest escape artist, Mazhunga is also the world's best jailer. As the god of freedom, he possesses the power to take that freedom away. This is why he is the forsaken dungeon master, in charge of trapping all their less killable enemies forever. However, due to his personality as an escapist, Mazhunga does not begrudge his captives their desire for freedom. He will not prevent them from trying to escape. Of course, he will catch them if caught in the act, but if they do manage to escape, they are no longer his responsibility, and he will simply take this opportunity to fix any flaws that may be in his prison.

Following

Those who follow him usually do so because they believe in him. They might have begged him for his aid in escaping an otherwise inescapable situation and, in return, pledge themselves to him. It is said that any words whispered through the bars of a prison cell, or anything else with the same function, will always be heard by Mazhunga, and he is all too eager to lend people his skills for a price.   Mazhunga grants all his followers their freedom. This is why they follow him. Alone, they may be imprisoned, married off, alone in the world, forced to work for a lord, or even enslaved. But while pledged to Mazhunga, they are guaranteed their freedom. He looks after them, gives them a community, and keeps them safe.   All that Mazhunga would ask of his followers in return is what they had once asked of him: to aid others in finding their freedom and, in turn, serve Mazhunga in his eternal quest to free the world from the tyranny of the Velen and the ruling dynasties who grovel at their feet.   To achieve this goal, he would not shy away from theft, murder, bribery, or anything else for that matter, for in the eyes of the Forsaken, any price is worth the end goal.

Rumors

Endless are the stories told of jail keys going missing, prison guards found with their throats cut, husbands accused of beating their wives found drowned in the lake, their spouse having been at the market all day. All these stories, myth or fact, contribute to Mazhunga's bad reputation among the general population.

Artifacts

Mazhunga's first artifact is the skeleton key, a tool of mythic power, that is said to be able to open any lock, as well as being able to unlock all things that need unlocking. This tool has long been used by his minions to break people out of prison, and to raid safes, and a great many other things.   His second is a device known as the soul trap. It doesn't simply clamp itself onto things, like a regular bear trap, but it ties the soul of a person or animal to itself, not allowing them to leave the area. Souls are much more flexible, so the trapped may still walk around, but no further than a meter or two. There is also no real way to escape this entrapment, unless you know how to open it, but that is something that requires secret magical knowledge of the object, closely guarded by the followers of Mazhunga.

Personality

Mazhunga's need to be free is absolute, he does not compromise, he does not care for the restrictions set upon him by others, as an act of defence he will always try to do what is not allowed, and as a principle, he will always free others when he can, especially if he can get something out of it.
