The Nation of The One
The One, more commonly called the Archpriestess due to her temple role, is one of the sacred artifacts of the great goddess Gaia, given to us to guide us in our struggles in this world. She was made the head, the ArchPriestess, of the temple of Gaia, which is now the governing body of the island of Crete. This nation is ruled directly by the One, which is allowed by the island's relatively small size.
Government
The only administrative body on the island is the temple. Here sit The One and her priestesses. The One is the leader of the nation, while the priestesses are each in charge of a different branch of administration. These priestesses are called the high priestesses; they reside within the temple with her and act as her advisors and executors of her will. The entirety of the island is ruled from this one temple. Recently, the new Archpriestess, which is how people refer to the One in everyday life, has taken control of nearby regions not connected to the island by land, and these new territories have required a new type of governing body. The solution they came up with is the governor system. The Archpriestess chooses a governor from among her priestesses, who is sent to the territory to act as a local administrator, which has worked quite well so far.
Politics
Being an influential religious figure, the One has always had relations with the mainland kingdoms and republics. These relationships were always cordial, but only to the extent where the mainlanders would politely tell the Nation of Crete to mind their own business, which is something the One has always been able to maneuver around. Now, though, with tensions rising in the world, the One has been forced to take more drastic measures to ensure control over the mainland before war renders them an island, isolated from the rest of the world.
Current Territories
Their main territory, over which they have traditionally ruled for centuries, is the island of Crete. But recently, they have taken control over the island of Cyprus, and with the fall of the Spartan nation, they were able to get their first foothold in the mainland—the Peloponnesian peninsula, as well as some nearby islands. However, they have thus far not been able to close in on Athens, and it seems unlikely they will anytime soon.
The People
Having long been under the influence of Gaia's great gift to the world, the One, They are fervant followers of the godess, this is further increased by their islands dry and arid nature, where they need all the help they can get in growing their food.
There is an east-west divide, between people who live closer to the temple, and those who live further away, as the people of the east rely more on their own strength, and the west is able to profit more from the One's influence in fertilizing their lands.
However, this has not posed a significant problem yet, as their divine ruler is strong and capable enough to enforce national unity.
Agriculture
While the islands land isn't the best for the growing of grains, they still manage to grow a decent amount of them, due to the One's influence. However, the more natural products of the island, are chestnuts, olives, and a variety of citrus fruits.
Magic
The One's policy on magic is pretty strict, magic is seen as a perverse version of the Velens' powers, that corrupt rather than heal, and therefore magic is banned within the nation of the One.
