Paladins

Introduction

The Paladins are an elite force of the nation of Westingham, who guard the monarchy and fight to protect and enforce the king's law. Their deeds have become legendary by the grandness of their impact. These warriors are only used for the most pressing and important of missions, as well as the most dangerous ones. They also act as the king's guard. Their success has inspired similar orders in bordering nations, although none can match the prestige of the Westingham paladins.

Weapons and armor

They are also famous for their unique swords, there are twenty-four paladin blades, which are all unique. they are all in the category of longswords tho. but makes them unique isn't their size, or even the fact they are made out of pure folded mithril, or the fact they have fancy gold plated crossguards, unmatched in beauty or craftsmanship. what makes them truly unique is the ancient runes carved on the sides of the blades, and the strange, black glass orbs that act as the pommel, which the Paladins can infuse with their magic, and make them glow like blades ablaze with sunlight.   They all also wear full mithril plate, which is custom-made for each of them, which is unique for the crest of the paladins that is engraved on the chest. their helmets are also always uniquely made, as a mask to represent their personality.

The inner workings of the Order

There are always twenty-four Paladins in the order. when a member dies, their apprentice will take their blade and their place in the order, every member also always has an apprentice. the only exception to this is if a paladin dies before his apprentice is considered properly trained. When this happens, one of the other paladins will offer to finish their training, during this time, one of the blades will go unused The way new recruits are selected is by sending to every corner of the realm, a request for their best warriors and most promising apprentices of proper age, to be sent to the capitol. here the paladins will arrange a set of trials and tests and they will select the one they consider most suitable. They are selected based on skill, strength, dedication, sense of teamwork, and magical ability since the ability to use magic is vital to the order of Paladins.   The Paladins are always led by their most senior member, who will also lead the kings-guard. there are always eight paladins near the king, as four of them are always guarding the king, they work in shifts of half a day. The other Paladins are always doing other things, always making themselves look busy, even if there isn't currently a pressing mission to complete, they might act as bodyguards on important diplomatic missions, but usually, they are sent to guard the kingdom against supernatural threats, and to investigate those threats.

Magical Practices

The Paladins mostly focus on protective, regenerative, and self-enhancing types of magic.
