The Spirits of Stone

Trolls, as rock elementals, are a rare sight, often secluded in mountainous regions. Ranging in size from 50 cm to about two meters, they embody rocky humanoids with a distinctive, grumpy expression. While generally passive and harmless, trolls prefer to remain in their rock shape, often adorned with moss or lichen, closely resembling ordinary rocks, making them challenging to spot.
While many elementals are solitary, this isn't the case for trolls, preferring the company of other trolls, and when spotted, it is not unusual to see them in their rock form, piled on top of each other.
Despite their inherently docile nature, trolls may turn aggressive if provoked. Their stoic appearance belies a potential for formidable retaliation when threatened.
Curiously, when captured, trolls exhibit mysterious behaviours. Some have been known to bury into the ground, never to be seen again, while others transform into sand, vanishing without a trace.
