Ellcria
Located on the archipelago known as the Mage Isles, Ellcria boasts the largest population of magical users in all the known world. On top of this, they also the home and birthplace of many different schools of magic and magical institutions.
Structure
Ellcria is led by a council whose members each control a certain aspect of the nation. The council chairs and their responsibilities are as follows:
Author - Seen as the most powerful position the Author oversees the distribution of all knowledge in the schools as well as magical research and experimentation. All permits for magical experiments go through the Author's branch. The Author is also seen as the primary individual behind the laws of Ellcria.
Weaver - Oversees all production and agriculture within the Mage Isles. Merchant guilds and businesses primarily deal with the Weavers' branch. It is also rumored the Weaver is also in charge of magical experiments that are kept from the public or that go against the various laws of the nation. Such rumors, however, are unfounded and should be dismissed without further thought.
Warden - In charge of both the defense of the nation as well as operating the Sorceria otherwise known as Cursestone Castle. A great prison fortress that holds those who have broken Ellcria's laws as well as monsters deemed too difficult or important to kill. The Warden is also partially in charge of the three great knight orders of Ellcria who serve as small elite militaries separate but part of Ellcria
Traveler - Of all the council positions, Traveler is seen as one of the oddest ones and often does not hold a lot of public favor. The Traveler is the only position that does not require the person the be within Ellcria, in fact, it is quite the opposite. The Traveler leads those under them around the world in search of lost information or relics, to search for new threats to Ellcria and also handle any and all diplomatic relations between Ellcria and any other nation. Those that work for the Traveler are often experts in fields such as archeology, culture, history or wildlife. It is also not uncommon for members of the Travelers branch to be sent on missions around the world to see if areas or rumors are worth the entire group's attention. To illustrate the public opinion of this position the Traveler and those under them are often referred to as the Traveler's Circus or Ellcria's Nomads.
Caretaker - Working primarily alongside the Author more than the other members, the Caretaker is responsible for maintaining the great catacombs of Ellcria as well as the lesser-known libraries and vaults hidden within.
It is a law of Ellcria that any citizen can hold one of the positions above. The only requirement is that they must best the person currently holding the position in combat. Often done so in one of the grand arenas in Ellcria in front of the whole nation, council duels are seen as one of the best forms of entertainment and displays of Ellcria's magical might. If someone is to die before they can pass on the position then a tournament is held to decide who it shall be next. It should be stated that by no means is it mandatory for a person to be a magic-user to attempt to become a member of the council nor hold the position. Only that they best their rivals in combat.
In addition to the position on the council that rules Ellcria, many of the other higher-level positions within the government under the council can be obtained through combat as well. Unlike the council positions, however, these duels often have far more restrictions and are sometimes not even allowed. Some of the restrictions are that combat must not be lethal, you can only challenge someone if you work under the same council member, and you must attain the member's permission to duel in the first place. This ensures that no member from the council can send those under them to undermine or spy on another member as well as to ensure that only those approved by the member can work for them.
Assets
Military and Defense
Heroes of Ellcria - The greatest weapons of Ellcria are the giant statues known as the Heroes of Ellcria. These massive statues are designed to resemble heroes and heroines from Ellcria's past. When Titans wander too close to the Mage Isles or actually attempt to attack it then the statues come to life as massive golems that ward off or kill the Titan. Each statue takes roughly 3 generations to build. The Mage Knights of Ellcria - The main military force of Ellcria. The Mage Knights are led directly by the Warden with the exception of a few companies who serve under the other members of the council. The Mage Knights also serve as the police force of Ellcria. The Order of the Zephyr - An order of knights skilled in wind magic. Unlike the Mage Knights or the other orders of Ellcria The Order of the Zephyr use wyverns as mounts for battle or travel. Also known as the Ellcrian Wyvern Knights. The Order of Iron - An order of knights skilled in metal, earth and fire magic. This order specializes in creating and utilizing knights in heavy armor often with the use of magic. Also known as the Iron Mages. The Order of the Wilds - An order of knights that specializes in the summoning, control, and mastery of monsters and creatures in combat situations as well as other scenarios. Also known as the Beast Mages. The Sorceria - A large fortress prison. Seen as the second most fortified structure in Ellcria The Zoo - a facility that houses the living creatures created from the experiments of the people. Instead of killing off failed or past experiments they are housed here for further study as well as humane reasons. While it is possible for the public to visit and see some of the creatures housed here the more dangerous experiments or those that are part of ongoing research are kept in secure areas. The whole facility is designed to be used as a defensible location in times of need.Agriculture & Industry
Being primarily a nation of magic users, Ellcria is one of the few magical power in the world. This means that the nation focuses primarily on the creation of magical items, raising magical creatures, farming magical plants and relying upon the education institutions in the nation as opposed to the more mundane productions.
