Knight Librarians

Knowledge is Power

Beginning at 3rd level when you choose this archetype, you can use your Intelligence modifier instead of Strength or Dexterity, for attack and damage rolls, with a weapon in which you are proficient.

The Pen is Mightier Than the Sword

Starting at 3rd level you gain proficiency with Scholar's tools and the History skill. At 10th level you gain expertise in these skills.

Spellcasting

Throughout your studies in various libraries you have been able to pick up a few spells to help aid you in your quest for knowledge. See Spells Rules for the general rules of spellcasting and page 3 of this subclass for the Knight Librarians spell list.   Cantrips. At 3rd level, you know two cantrips of your choice from the Knight Librarians spell list. You learn additional Knight Librarians cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Knight Librarians table.   Spell Slots. The Knight Librarian Spellcasting Table shows how many spell slots of 1st level or higher you have to cast. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher. You know three 1st-level Knight Librarian spells of your choice. The Spells Known column of the Knight Librarian Spellcasting table shows when you learn more Knight Librarian spells of 1st level or higher. Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the Knight Librarian spells you know with another spell of your choice from the Knight Librarian spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots   Spellcasting Ability. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for Knight Librarian spells. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a Knight Librarian spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.   Spell save DC: 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier   Spell attack modifier: your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier   Spellcasting Focus. You can use a weapon you are proficient with as your spellcasting focus for your Knight Librarian spells. You still must have a free hand available to perform somatic components. Ritual Casting. You can cast a Knight Librarian spell as a ritual, if that spell has the ritual tag.

Know Your Lore

Starting at 7th level, your studies and work with ancient tomes and texts allow you to delve into your vast repository of lore, tapping into ancient secrets lost to the ravages of time. If you spend one minute meditating, you can recall pieces of information related to certain areas of lore. Roll a d8 and add your Intelligence modifier. You can add extra bonuses to the roll by expending a Knight Librarian spell slot. The bonus is +5 for a 1st-level spell slot, and an additional +5 for each spell level higher than 1st. Example, expending a 3rd level slot would give you a +15 to the roll.   Consult the table below to determine the amount of information you were able to gather. The Dungeon Master determines the pieces of knowledge that you gain pertaining to the question you ask. You can use this feature a number of time equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1). You regain any expended uses when you complete a long rest.
Roll Result Lore Knowledge
00-09 You were unable to divine any useful information.
10 - 14 You gather one piece of valuable information.
15 - 19 You gather two pieces of valuable information.
20 - 24 You gather three pieces of valuable information.
25 - 29 You gather four pieces of valuable information.
30+ You are an expert in this area of lore, knowing one particular piece information that has been lost to the ravages of time.

Diligent Studies

Your hard work in the libraries of lore and wider exposure to the magics that govern the universe have payed off. At 10th level, pick any number of spells whose total spell level equals 3 (such as one 3rd-level spell, three 1st-level spells, or one 2ndlevel and one 1st-level spell) from one of the following classes' spell lists: bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, warlock, or wizard. You always have these spells prepared, and they count as Knight Librarian spells for you. Each time you gain a level in this class, you can swap these spells out for different spells. When you reach 15th level, the total spell level of the spells learned increases to 4. At 18th level, it increases again to 5. You can cast each of these spells once without expending a spell slot. You must finish a long rest before you can do so again.

A Mind as Sharp as a Sword

At 18th level, your mind becomes as sharp and punishing as any weapon. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can forgo one attack and use your bonus action to cast a spell. This spell must have a casting time of 1 action, and must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell's current level.
