The Kavod

The Kavod are a collection of nine clans that live on the five islands of the Kavod Isles. Six of the clans are water oriented and 3 are earth oriented and explore the many caves and tunnel networks of the Isles. They wear clothes primarily made from gorilla hide, whale leather and bone and giant squid leather. Many of their buildings are built out of whale bones and wood.

Whales

Out of all the creatures that live in the Kavod Isles, the Kavod prize the whales above all. Whales are seen as equals and are treated with respect and care. Normally when a new whale is born the clan responsible for the herd celebrates by holding a day long festival. Despite the importance of whales to the Kavod not all are deemed worthy enough to interact with the whales. Only the Whale Callers, a circle of Druids entrusted with the well being of the isles and the whales, are deemed worthy to care for, ride and speak with the whales. To be a Whale Caller is one of the highest honors a Kavod can earn. While the Whale Callers are responsible for the whales they are not normally responsible for their defense. The Breachers, the military force of the Kavod, protect the whales the numerous monsters that dwell within the oceans and those that would wish to harm a whale. The greatest honor a person can earn without being a Whale Lord is by being a member of both the Breachers and the Whale Callers. Since only whales that have died of old age or illness are allowed to be harvested it is considered a great crime to kill a whale before its time. Any person caught killing a whale is often branded a traitor and exiled.

Structure

There are nine clans within the the Kavod, each one controlling a village or town on one of the islands. Each clan has its own chief that governs the city. Above the chiefs is the Whale Lord, someone chosen to lead the Kavod by the nine chiefs. Often times the Whale Lord is decided by a contest between the candidates. A chief of a clan is unable to become a Whale Lord and vice versa.

History

Little of the Kavod history is known to the outside world. In fact many people think that the Kavod are actually a myth. They rarely leave their waters and have no need or desire to interact with the people of the world though they do take in those that have been shipwrecked or end up lost in their waters.
