The Commodity of Dragon Scale Fabric

Many materials and fabrics used for clothing are quite expensive, but none more so than Dragon Scale Fabric. Dragon Scale Fabric is reserved for only the richest of the rich, rulers that have much, much more money than one man could ever spend. The creation of Dragon Scale Fabric is an insanely long, expensive, and tedious process:
  1. First, the Dragon Scales themselves must be collected. This can be from actual dragons (most expensive), wyverns (moderately expensive), or dead Dragonborn (least expensive). Next, the indiviual fibers of the each indiviual Dragon Scale must be seperated from the others. This is an insanely long and tedious process, and takes on average 50 hours of straight manual labor to separate out all of the fibers of a single scale, and it takes hundreds of scales to make a single scarf of Dragon Scale Fabric. This process can not be done by an untrained eye, either, as if you try to separate the fibers of a Dragon Scale incorrectly, the fiber would simply flit out of existence for an unknown reason. Only 15 of The Finite Races know how to properly separate all of the fibers of a single Dragon Scale, and it takes over 50 years to learn the proper procedure completely. Next, the fibers must be strung together. This is a simpler task that separating the fibers, but is still no easy one. Each fiber is only about half an inch long, and a pin prick precise dip of sovereign glue is the only glue to consistently keep all of the fibers together. If the sovereign glue gets the fiber stuck to anything else, either a dab of universal solvent must be applied, which could break the strand, or the strand must be abandoned if no universal solvent is on hand. Finally, the last step of creating Dragon Scale Fabric is to weave together the strands, which any high end seamstress can do pretty easily, while only putting in a few hours of work.
To put the price of a 1 inch square of Dragon Scale Fabric into perspective, one of these squares costs 500 Platinum Imperials on average, or 5,000 Gold Tigers.
