The Thunderheads
Just northwest of the Hylaus Wastes of the Feywild lies one of the most astonishing and awe-inspiring natural wonders of the Material Plane and its echoes: the Thunderheads. This mountain range towers perilously high compared to the surrounding deserts and tundras. These peaks lie within a perpetual storm system. Thunder and lightning flash within the spiraling darkness, and rain comes in at blistering speeds. Anyone brave or foolhardy enough to brave one of the mountain passes through the Thunderheads will encounter encroaching darkness, sudden dropoffs, loose and slick terrain, and the ever-present threat of continuous lightning strikes.
Geography
The geography of the Thunderheads is composed solely of brittle stone that is easily shattered by the force of lightning. For this reason, loose rock fields are piled on the sides of these peaks, made even more dangerous by the slick rain. Sheers stone cliffs caused by something even more fearsome than simple lightning can also be found on some of the steeper faces of the taller mountains in the range...
Ecosystem
Absolutely no plant vegetation can be found or most likely ever will be found in this hostile environment of pure stone and death. Really, the only living things that can survive within the Thunderheads are the great Thunder Giants, living in the upper reaches of the peaks, hurling lightning at each other as a game and splitting the mountains into pieces to test their strength and fortitude. However, the great amount of precipitation from the peaks of the Thunderheads has caused the alpine areas on the borders of the mountains to be lush and full of life, a balance between the destruction of the Thunderheads and the devastation surrounding them.
Localized Phenomena
The Thunderheads are surrounded by a perpetual storm system, but the cause of this phenomenon is somewhat unclear. Is it simply a manifestation of the Material Plane through the Feywild? Is it caused by the presence of the Thunder Giants within the mountain range?
