The Wardens of Carceri

The Law-Keepers of the Planes

"Evil-doers beware! Villains foolishly prepare! The Wardens of Carceri are those whom evil will never snare!"
- The Wardens of Carceri

General Info

Carceri, one the stars of Viabaas' Ring, is the plane of prisons for the murderous backstabbers and thieves of the other planes, but The Wardens of Carceri are the elite organization that hunts down and delivers these criminals to Carceri. It is said that the Wardens reside in the 5th and final layer of Carceri, Makosa.

Members and Enlistment

The Wardens of Carceri are composed of the planar drifters of Gearva, those who have been thrown into an unknown and dangerous world but have managed to survive and claw their way to a somewhat normal way of living. Not much is known about the enlistment requirements for the wardens, but what is known is that the requirements are vigorous and extreme, making the Wardens of Carceri a group solely made up of elite soldiers.   Excluding the Chief Warden, there are currently 5 official members of the group, which are listed below:   Yuma the Caretaker - A female individual with short green hair wearing a patterned red and white dress. She upkeeps the grounds of the Wardens' Den, where the Wardens reside in the 5th layer of Carceri, Makosa. Due to her background as an urchin, she never developed socially, so her personality is sporadic and unpredictable.   The Pale Prince - A massive armored individual clad in white carapace-like armor. The helm of this armor covers the entire top half of his face, meaning that the Pale Prince is completely blind and instead relies on his other senses at all times. Due to his background as a betrayed military lieutenant, he discusses concepts such as respect, honor, and loyalty to the point of near obsession, but he is a quite accepting and friendly individual all the less.   Vorsorus the Black Herald - A dashing young man with ink-black hair and dull green eyes. He is dressed in dark, studded leather armor with black dragon scale shoulder pads and a dark green flowing cape. He wields a scythe sheathed in green poison and shining emeralds. He speaks deeply and softly and acts arrogant from time to time. However, Vorsorus is, in fact, an adult black dragon polymorphed into a human form. He prefers to look at things from a big-picture perspective and usually doesn't get himself involved in conflicts.   Dimi the Archpriestess - A tall blonde female individual wearing priestly robes and wielding a large scepter with a censer full of incense hanging from one end. She speaks energetically and righteously, and commonly refers to theological and religious ideas such as forgiveness, sins, atonement, and righteousness. Due to her background as a priestess and religious figure, she considers herself to be a vessel for not herself, but for the will of the Lords.   The Madman - An individual who was once of the finite races, but is no longer. Twisted by the beings and powers of the Far realm, Limbo, and Schimbaru, the name of this character has been lost to the depths of their own mind. They no longer think in the standards of the Wraith Globe, they are now one with the worlds beyond Finite understanding.

Operations and Ethics

On the other hand, how the Wardens of Carceri operate is very known. Each member travels a different portion of the Wraith globe, usually an entire plane, and watches and waits for an extreme evil-doer to pass them by. They don't just stop for any petty thief, either. They will delve into the mind of new visitors of a plane and root out all the evil in their minds. If that warden believes their target is worthy of imprisonment in Carceri for their past actions, they will apprehend the criminal in one way or another. Some Wardens take more of a merciful approach, talking with the individual and giving them a chance to come quietly. Some Wardens dive headlong into battle, incapacitating their target and bringing them back to Carceri. Of course, all actions that a Warden takes must be reported to the Chief Warden, whose identity is all but unknown to those outside of this elite organization. If the chief Warden feels that a Warden has done something unjustly, an immediate investigation will be done, and if the Warden is found guilty, they will be expelled from the Wardens of Carceri, or even imprisoned in Carceri depending on the severity of the mistake.

Maps

  • The Desert of Demise
The Desert of Demise is the third and "middle" layer of Carceri, the Plane of Prisons. Representing the inevitability of death, this layer is a massive desert sitting within a cosmic hourglass, which flips completely every 24 hours. The base of the landscape is a large desert filled with Meenlocks hiding just beneath the sand, dangerous illusions, and half-crazed convicts wandering the landscape until their eventual demise.
