Fergus Cousland is the current Teyrn of Highever, and lord of Castle Cousland.

Personal history
Fergus is the eldest child of Bryce and Eleanor Cousland, and elder brother of Eliana Cousland. He was trained as a warrior and married Oriana, the daughter of an Antivan trader, with whom he had a son, Oren.
Fergus traveled to Ostagar with the armies of King Cailan Theirin in an attempt to drive back the darkspawn horde. This left him away from Castle Cousland prior to Arl Howe's attack on the castle. Fergus was unaware of the fate of his family, and was afterwards sent on a scouting mission to the Korcari Wilds. While in the Wilds, his unit was ambushed by the darkspawn, and most of his men were killed. He was taken in by some Chasind warriors and nursed back to health. His recovery was somewhat lengthy, and he was not able to travel again until around the end of the Fifth Blight. It was at the ending celebrations that Fergus learned of the death of his family, and of the disappearance of his sister. While most believe Eliana to be dead - killed either by Howe's men or by the darkspawn - Fergus still holds out hope that his sister is alive.
