Personal history
Juliana de Luz was born the recognized bastard of an Antivan Merchant Prince and his favorite Elven mistress. The second her innate magical abilities started to manifest, her father's wife had the Templars called to their estate. Juliana was locked in the Circle of Magi tower in Treviso before she was even old enough to remember her mother's name.
To say the young half-elf mage did not adjust well to her captivity would be an understatement. It was made bearable, however, by the other little girl dragged in chains with her. She and Lucia - Luce, to Juliana - were the best friends one could ever imagine. Closer than most tied by blood, Luce was truly Juliana's sister. They promised each other that they would protect each other, no matter what. And they did.
Luce always had uncontrollable night terrors, and as the girls grew older, the night terrors grew worse, and Juliana watched her friend's rudimentary control of magic grow less and less stable. Every year, every month, seemed to bring the unthinkable fate closer to Juliana's best friend - the Rite of Tranquility. In hushed and desperate whispers, Luce begged Juliana to never let her live like that. She'd rather die.
One day, the Templars' eyes followed them a little too closely, and that night, when they came to their dormitory, Juliana was ready for them. She stood in front of Luce, promising her no matter what, she wasn't alone. She wouldn't let them do this. But the ten-year-old girl was not strong enough to take four trained men.
Juliana has no memories of what happened next, or how she had ended up in a field far from the Circle with the dead body of her best friend in her arms. She just knew she wasn't safe, especially when word of her former circle's annulment started spreading like wildfire. She ran to the water, where she hopped from boat to boat for years, quick to fight, but quicker to make a friend.
Eventually, Juliana found herself a proud member of Captain Araceli 's smuggling crew. Stealing came easily enough, but what came even easier was raising hell for those who thought they could trade in people.
Juliana came of age on the sea, loving and living fiercely. She never forgot Luce, the love for her best friend unbreakable even in death. Juliana lived every day to its fullest to honor her. Trouble was wonderfully easy to find - sometimes even the fun kind of trouble. Trouble like a fight with any Templar who crossed her path.
