Victoria

Divine Victoria

After the death of Divine Justinia and most of the Chantry's Grand Clerics in the explosion at the Divine Conclave, the Chantry was left reeling without its leaders. Because all the Grand Clerics who could have succeeded Justinia died alongside her, the Chantry was forced to look outside its usual confines for candidates. For a Divine to be chosen, the College of Clerics must convene in Val Royeaux and reach an unanimous decision. After the Orlesian Civil War was ended at the Winter Palace, the Clerics were able to focus on the election of the Divine, and elected Leliana, the former Left Hand of the Divine, as Justinia's successor.   She disbanded the Circle of Magi, and allowed mages to rule their own lives. She admitted non-humans into the Chantry priesthood, allied with the Inquisition, and adhered to the principle of service to others. She also opened the Chantry to male clerics, and allowed Chantry personnel to marry. Her message of love being the Maker's greatest gift spread despite opposition.   Divine Victoria's rule was controversial from the start, but she met with their leaders, urging unity, and miraculously, her words took root, and for now, the Chantry remains united and strong.
