Caer Bronach

Caer Bronach is an old Alamarri military outpost in Ferelden near Crestwood, to the east of Redcliffe.

History

Before the Alamarri unified into one nation, regions of their land were ruled by warlords. One such warlord was Brandel Bronach. He had inherited Caer Bronach from his father and used it as his headquarters through which his clan was unable to be assaulted.   For the longest time, the walls were thought to be impenetrable and would serve as a defense for his people forever. This was true for almost his entire life, until the keep was besieged by an invading Orlesian force. The attacking forces used siege equipment no Alamarri had ever seen, and the walls crumbled. Despite this, the keep held for longer than anyone would've expected.   When the fort's defeat seemed inevitable and a squad of Orlesian chevaliers waited to charge in, Warlord Bronach raised the portcullis and waived a flag of truce. He planted it in the ground before him and proceeded to challenge every chevalier in the Imperial Army to a duel. Amused, the highest officer accepted the offer; Warlord Bronach quickly cut him down. Eight more followed, driven by honor and by the watching soldiers forcing the fights to continue. One by one, Bronach refused to die. The tenth challenger finally managed a fatal blow, only because Warlord Bronach had slowed due to blood loss from previous injuries.   Impressed by Bronach's tenacity and endurance, the remaining officers left the small villages around the fort untouched as the Orlesians instead continued marching towards Denerim, sparing hundreds of innocent lives.   Since the end of the Ferelden Rebellions, the keep has swapped hands between bandits, Templars, and the arl of Redcliffe.
