Goliaths
Goliaths are from a land far away from Thedas. Just over half a century ago, they sailed towards Thedas and landed on the island in the north known as Par Vollen. The trip was so long that few remember their homeland, or were even alive when the ships departed.
Goliaths are large humanoids who tower over the people of other races. They are incredibly strong, hardy, and intimidating. Most have horns that grow from their head, and these horns vary in appearance across people of this race. These horns can resemble, but is not limited to: mountain goats, sheep, or bulls.
Most goliaths considered themselves Qunari, or "People of the Qun", though there are those goliaths that reject this society and instead abandon it. Those that are Qunari live under a strict society where one's place and purpose are dictated to them. There they are given purpose and the tools to pursue this purpose. Those that abandon that society are branded as Tal-Vashoth and are considered threats to the Qun. Children born to a goliath who is Tal-Vashoth is considered Vashoth and welcomed back into Qunari society.
Meeting a goliath is a rarity, and communicating with one is even harder since most only known Qunith.
History
Despite their short history in Thedas, goliaths have left their mark upon the land in blood. Shortly after landing on Par Vollen, the goliaths blitzkrieged their way onto the shores of Rivain and took the country by storm. Few Theodosians have ever met a goliath, but they know they are a scary folk. It wasn't until a massive army was built up along Rivain's south-west that the goliaths could even be challenged.Culture and Reception
The public opinion of goliaths is mostly tainted by the few Rivaini and Antivans who met them in war. Little fact is known about their people since they prefer to keep themselves isolated from other nations. When most people think of goliaths they think about them being strict and abrasive. Only one outsider has ever been allowed into Par Vollen since its conquering. What little reports he was able to get back to the other nations was that they are a people who are deeply intertwined into their role and position in their society. Unlike Fereldens or Free Marchers who live for personal freedom, goliaths see themselves as tools for their society to use. Most people, particularly the Rivaini, hold deep grudges against goliaths. Other nations don't really know what to think of them. There have been incidents of violence incited by the Qunari, most noticeably in Ferelden when the Arishok tried to raze a major city to the ground and murdered the standing king. However, those incidents of violence outside of Rivain's invasion have had those members of the Qun disavowed from their society posthumously.Culture
