Uncommon Diseases
Swordbearer’s Bane
Contraction:
Contact with infected creature’s blood.
Signs:
The disease causes the hands and feet of the infected creature to begin to swell and become tender. After a few days, the host’s extremities go numb.
Mechanical Effects:
The creature loses 15’ of movement and has disadvantage on all Dexterity ability checks. After 2d4 days, the host’s extremities go numb. The creature has disadvantage on all Dexterity saving throws and is treated as if it were under the effect of a Bane spell until cured.
Cure:
Wearing lambswool clothing, specifically around infected and numb regions.
Rare Diseases
Displacing Malalignment
Contraction:
An excess of ore, notably iron, finds its way into the infected creature’s bloodstream.
Signs:
Runny nose, sometimes with blood involved. Lightheaded-ness. Creature’s eyesight become blurry. Eventual loss of eye-sight.
Mechanical Effects:
Creature’s eyesight deteriorates to blindness over 1d4 days. Prior to that, the creature has disadvantage on all Perception checks based off of eyesight. As well, whenever the infected creature makes an attack roll against a target, the infected must randomly determine one creature amongst all the creatures within 5’ of the original target and instead attack that target (possibly hitting the original target, possibly hitting something else). Spells that require you to see the target and that do not require an attack roll fail if casted. If the creature is not cured of its blindness after 7 days of its onset, the effects of the disease are permanent. This can only be undone by using Greater Restoration or more powerful magics.
Cure:
Being struck by a bolt of lightning or bathing in cold water for 14 hours straight.
