Character Rules & Start Up
Filling Out a Character Sheet
Below is an in-depth guide to writing the details of your character into your sheet. The character sheet will handle the vast majority of things that pertain to your character mechanically and numerically. Except for basic information that has a field on the sheet, for things that are more thematic or flavor, such as a description of your character's appearance, their relationships, or their backstory, you will leave to the Basic and Extended Profiles of your character profile. Additionally, when editing your sheet, you may notice a handful of tabs at the top, named Arms & Equipment, Creatures & Mounts, Retinue, Spellbook, Possessions & Property; ignore these. In the first area of the sheet at the top, the fields are fairly straightforward, simply write in the appropriate details. Examples provided are utilizing this writer's own character. To start things off, we need to answer a pretty important question! What is your character motivation? With this, there must be a reason for them to be an adventurer!
Have a reason to be an adventurer and go on adventures. I don't have the patience to deal with "oh, I just want to be a blacksmith" PCs. Please make characters that actually want to play the game.
Have a reason to adventure with the group. I also don't have the patience to deal with dark loners who want to leave the group and pursue their own interests. I run a group game. Please make characters that will adventure with the group.
Stats
In D&D stats are a pretty integral part of our characters, being both what we use for combat and social encounters, they're also what we base how our character's might act!You can choose from one of the pre-set stat arrays, or you can use 27 point-buy for abilities (See PHB 13, Variant: Customizing Ability Scores)
The Specialist: 17 / 12 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 10
The Base: 15 / 15 / 14 / 11 / 11 / 10
The Even Spread: 13 / 13 / 13 / 13 / 13 / 13
Character Options
You may choose from all races, classes, backgrounds, and other PC options in the PHB.If you want to use a race, class, archtype, feat, or other feature from one of WoTC's official books, such as Xanathar's or Tasha's, check with me first. And be ready for some adjustments. I'm finding that many of the new player options are quite unbalanced.
As always, the DM reserves the right to adjust options that are unbalanced or broken, such as Elven Accuracy or Healing Spirit(old).
However if you would like to choose one of the options I have here on World Anvil, just check in with me so that I know!
