Johann Fringeces, God of The Train
Johann Fringeces is the shadowy patron of gambling and overseer of The Train. Johann Fringeces' history is a complete mystery, even to the other gods, with perhaps the exception of Kruphix. His followers claim that he is both a being in the Nyx and simultaneously The Train itself. Soft, pleasant, and unintelligible chatter ambiently surrounds Johann Fringeces like a shroud. Standing apart from the other gods, he speaks to them rarely.
Johann Fringeces' true form is more abstract than that of most of the other gods. He appears only in dark misty silhouette, usually as a hooded, hunched figure with a wide bright smile. His mouth and toothy smile being the only visible feature of his body. Johann Fringeces' silhouette fades and sinks through walls and floors whenever he is satisficed with his most recent bout of gambling.
Johann Fringeces' Influence
Johann Fringeces' power and influence over mortals seems to be more physical on the surface. The Train providing safe transport of people, trade goods, resources, and even a chance to strike it rich. The people of Theros are unsure if the gods reach extends beyond The Train, but many mortals pray to him for luck no matter where they are. Even gods enjoy to make wagers from time to time and Johann Fringeces is happy to give them what they want. Johann Fringeces hold great influence over the majority of the goblins that have settled into the land of Theros. Most goblins revere and worship The Train, though in the common culture of the goblins, they don't believe Johann Fringeces is The Train itself. Johann Fringeces takes pleasure in meeting new people and gambling with them. He loves nothing more that to risk it all on a wager, and money does not seem to be in short supply for the god of gambling. He never pressures his followers or any mortals to gamble, but highly respects those willing to put everything on the line; gambling or otherwise. Many stories have come from those who rode The Train and left with nothing at all and far fewer where they return home wealthier than they could have ever dreamed. Johann Fringeces' Goals
Johann Fringeces doesn't seem to want to rule anything. His goals are unknown to all, and the other gods are suspicious of how much time Johann Fringeces spends in direct contact with mortal-kind. Worshiping Johann Fringeces
Because his most devout followers are merchants and gamblers, his influence is keenly felt in gambling halls, stockyards, and most strongly on The Train. Everyone wants to be secure in their finances, and thus, they also find small ways to seek Johann Fringeces' favor as they go about their daily lives. Formal services to Johann Fringeces are conducted as The Train goes by on its tracks, while the most "sacred" rituals are performed through risky gambling in the The Train's casino. Such rituals often results in followers losing many material possesions, claimed by the god and repurposed as prizes for more gambling. Devout followers usually don't sit on any gains they may win, because as many of them claim: "They haven't hit the real big win yet." Johann Fringeces is worshiped openly across the realms, and goblins seem to worship him exclusively. Most goblins live their entire short lives on The Train, working tirelessly on it's maintenance, and living off the money and food provided by The Train. No one seems to know where the goblins keep their resources or where on The Train that they live. Johann Fringeces' Champions
