Artisia Lake

On still nights, the surface of Artisia Lake becomes as flat and as reflective as a mirror, a perfect image of the stars and the moon above. It is for this reason that the elves of old found the lake to be a sacred sight. The citizens of Volantis have been performing rites to the moon within the lake for as long as the city had been standing. Artisia Lake provides the people of Volantis with fish and transportation, as the river leading southward from the city pass right by Anestor's capital, Unity, but in spite of the lake's long history it still holds many mysteries.
Artisia Lake is the setting of many legends in Anestor, and over the centuries, countless sightings of the strange and mystical have taken place at the beautiful location. Some claim to have seen massive creatures moving beneath the surface. Others claim to have seen a city beneath the lake's surface, and it has even been said that a race of mermaids call the lake their home. One thing is certain, there is something magical happening in the lake. Scholars have concluded that the lake's source, which is from somewhere within Astreia's Forest is to blame. The Forest is full of fonts of magic, portals to the fey wild and many fey creatures, not to mention Astreia herself, who many believe is the source for most of the magic in the country. Another theory speculates that there is a portal to a water plane beneath the surface of the lake, letting all manner of creatures loose into the lake.
