Giefland
Before Anestor was conquered by Marceaux, humans landed on the eastern shores of the island country, and settled it under the name of Giefland, or 'Gift Land.' The small country was regularly attacked by Utgardian raiders, who were the terror of the east. To keep themselves safe, they built heavily fortified settlements on the coast. As the population grew, Giefland spread across the whole of eastern Anestor, building high stone walls and training skilled knights for each city, but there was nothing unifying these cities. Each city was its own state, ruled by its own king, and these city states were always at war with another, greedy to take more land and more wealth from one another. The commoners were caught in the middle, forever at the mercy of their flippant lords.
With the help of Golaran, the king, Argus Brightflame united the kingdom under the banner of Brightflame. For the first time, Giefland stood united against outside forces. King Argus was able to organize a proper defense against Utgard, and commissioned sea walls be erected on the coast.
After centuries of strengthening the civilization, Marceaux invaded. It was a war that Giefland was not prepared for, or capable of winning. At Marceaux's hand, Giefland was conquered and absorbed into the empire.
