The Crystal Tower
Stretching high over the plaza, is a tower of crystal. There are no doors to this tower, nor are there windows. The tower's owner does not need such conventional means of transportation. Bright blue runes emblazon from the walls. Long, thick, purple tentacles have sprouted up from the ground around the tower, and crawl up the walls of the building, and two flat reflecting pools sit on either side of it, but they do not reflect the sky. They are windows to another place.
During the Marcisian occupation, the immortal wizard, Golaran, led people, particularly ones that the Marcisians were targeting, through the treacherous Dunkirk Mountains. Not all of the pilgrims made it, but for those who did, the crystal tower marked salvation. It was already there, as were a few ancient ruins. None aside from the wizard could enter the tower, and though the mysterious wizard did not confirm this, most believed that he knew about the tower before he led the first pilgrims through the Dunkirk Mountains. It is also believed that Golaran's true purpose may have been the tower.
It is not known if Golaran has spent any time in the tower since the war. He disappeared after he arranged the marriage of Darian and Dathyra, though this does not mean that there has been no activity at the tower. Over the decades, strange occurrences have been a regularity. The crystal walls will light up. Voices or music reverberate off of the walls, and distorted images of gigantic creatures within the tower can be made out through the the crystalline walls.
Scholars from the Elchryst Academy of Magic have studied the tower extensively. It seems to be a nexus of magical energy, lying on an intersection of multiple ley lines. Extra planar energies have been detected within, but it is difficult to pin point which planes might be influencing the tower. It's possible it changes. As for the tentacles at the towers base, they appear to be both organic and formed of pure magic. The pools at the tower's base could be windows into other worlds, or farway lands. The images change, and two different people gazing at the water's surface at the same time might see two different things.
Purpose / Function
Though this building is arcane in nature, and belongs to the great and immortal wizard, Golaran, the purpose of building is unknown, though it has been researched extensively. It is a bit of a mystery for scholars obsessed with the strange building.
