General Summary

Having delved into the once-buried tomb of Orestes, the party had just finished a difficult water combat. You waded into the room to the south with an ajar door. Inside, there was a hidden door to the east that ascended out of the water and into the main burial site.

Milo Tetrimennos you were first to enter and spotted a large, lavish sarcophagus in a pool of water being overlooked by a larger-than-life stone statue of Phenax. Coming from around the sarcophagus was an unsettlingly attractive Lampad who introduced herself as Annie.

Annie welcomed you into the final resting place of the great Orestes as she needed help removing the lid to retrieve a runaway spirit from the underworld on behalf of her god, Athreos. Æcktor and Milo help her free the eidolon who looked like Varyas but Annie immediately tried to pounce to prevent its escape.

A confusing and conflicting combat commenced as three separate parties seemed to be involved with dissimilar goals. In the end, you were all that remain standing. You rested and explored the rest of the tomb, looting along the way.

Ultimately, you returned to the primary burial chamber. Milo tried one last thing to find some answers but it failed. Out of frustration he threw the mask at the statue which surprisingly caught the mask and sprang to life. He, The Returned Oracle, began answering questions but refused to deal with anyone's attitude. He revealed to Mycena the prophetic power of the sarcophagus and eventually deciphered the writing on Varyas's mask:

Khea. Hid from eyes of mortals and gods, Lies wither in Orestes’s rot. The Great Imposter has placed upon The Knowing Oracle a quest to learn what it is that The Great Imposter has forgot.   The gods you know are a ruse; they are a dream.
Theros possesses a unique metaphysical property: things believed and dreamed eventually become real. The collective unconscious of mortals has the literal power of creation. As stories were told, sacrifices made, and devotion given, the gods formed and gained lives just as real as the mortals who dreamed them into being. If belief wanes, the god's power and existence wanes until it vanishes, eventually ushering in the next generation. Such is the god-killing power of unbelief.   The gods you know are a ruse; they are a nightmare.
This power has been realized and harnessed in the most vile ways. Long ago, the gods of the era were stolen and locked away by Erebos. As Erebos installed his new twisted pantheon, The Great Imposter triumphantly discovered they languish on an island just beyond where the Tartyx River cascades off the world’s edge. They are but blips of existence as less than a handful of mortals believe their existence.   Please Khea, help.
