Discordant Rebellions

The Discordant Rebellions were a series of uprisings against the Psionic Scourge that occurred all across Thesilae throughout the last several hundred years of the Age of Eclipse.

History

Subjugation of Thesilae

The Psionic Scourge first arrived on Thesilae during the Age of the Sun, which had been a time of great prosperity for the mortal peoples of the world. The Scourge's arrival marked the end of this era, however, and the beginning of the Age of Eclipse. It took only a mere few days for the Scourge to eliminate the militaries of mortal-kind, to destroy their art and architecture, to raze their cities and cultures. Soon after, the Scourge built their own technologically advanced settlements filled with sleek black structures so tall they cast shadows across half the world and sprawling underground networks which spread through much of the Umbralands.
The Thesilaen peoples were enslaved by the Scourge, to serve as a perpetual source of food and labor. In the early years of the Scourge's reign, several attempts at rebellion were made- but their participants were vaporized before any change could be achieved.

The Rebellions

It is impossible to know exactly how many rebel groups rose up during the years in which the Discordant Rebellions were fought, much less how many skirmishes were fought or assaults were launched. Their leaders were selected by the gods themselves, and directed to struggle against the Scrouge with all their might. According to historical records (and the surviving rebel heroes themselves), most of the rebel leaders were completely unaware that other rebellions were forming across the globe. However, despite a complete lack of coordination, the uprising as a whole was highly effective. Each individual group acted stratigically, targeting vulnerable locations of great importance, and destroying the Scourge's most valuable resources. With their numbers waning, and their ability to recuperate decreasing exponentially, what remained of the scourge by the end of the rebellions was forced to flee the planet altogether.

Aftermath

Once Thesilae was rid of the last of the Psionic Scourge, they began to form their own nations. By this point, many regions of the world were still disconnected from each other, and so a wide variety of governing styles were adopted. However, the mortal peoples of Thesilae were all in agreement about one truth: slavery, in any form, is among the most vile and reprehensible crimes in the universe. As such, every nation in the world has some law forbidding the enslavement of any mortal creature, and promises severe punishment to any offenders.
Several of the mortal peoples who currently live on Thesilae were first brought here as slaves and cattle by the Psionic Scourge. This includes Thesilae's humans, elves, halflings, and several other ancestries. These non-natives are broadly accepted by native Thesilaens due to their shared history, and because there is so little remaining of the world as it was before the arrival of the Psionic Scourge. However, there still exist a handful of extremist thinkers who claim that the non-native peoples of Thesilae were not created by the Ethereal Gods and therefore have "false souls". Such extremists are exceedingly rare, and are considered to be among the worst kinds of people.
Unlike the Scourge, the mortals of Thesilae do not have widespread access to magic or technology which would allow them to destroy the settlements of another civilization. As such, many (but not all) Thesilaen cities are built out of the ruins of the Psionic structures whcih were left behind when the Scourge fled.
