Kzalzkidus

A widespread sickness that can only effect Ukztlakats.   Kzalzkidus is known to withstand almost all known treatments by the Grand Artanat Empire. Even the Hyperion Federation has trouble curing it. It is particularly difficult to target because the microbe that causes it very closely resembles a bacteria that is part of the normal ukztlakat microbiome, the death of which could cause further health issues for the person effected. This way, it is difficult for medicine to target one and not the other. Perhaps it naturally evolved this way intentionally.   Fortunately, the ukztlakat body itself can, in some cases, identify the differences and target them, but due to its very low death rate, they never had to evolve for it. However, it can spread rapidly through the air. Like the microbe it resembles, it reproduces primarily in the lung. From here it can reach many locations of the body via the bloodstream, one of those being the brain, which can impact the individual's psychology but is not known to have any particularly significant effects other than this. Strangely, it does no permanent damage to the brain or rapidly reproduce in it.   During one particular time during history at a time shortly after unification and before becoming a KII civilization, for some unknown reason, kzalzkidus managed to reach the brain of a large number of individuals simultaneously. This impacted their psychology, and caused many to rebel. As a huge number of individuals challenged the military, death and destruction followed. The resulting wars would be the cause of billions of deaths. This would be known as the Kural crisis. It would only be about 2 years after the crisis that they would figure out that it was caused by the microbe...
