Shield Gun
A gun-like device used and made by the Cypher Dominion.
The Shield Gun can be wielded by any infantryman. Although it is quite large and cumbersome to carry and restricts their armament, they can still be a valuable tool on the battlefield as they project a disc shield about 20 metres in front of the device when used. This can be used to effectively protect a squad of significant size and strength.
Although the CD sometimes uses these quite cleverly, such as only deploying them when the enemy has underestimated their strength and already started attacking, many factions can still counter them. These methods typically come in the form of some form of electronic warfare, like EMP. Sometimes weaons of a far higher caliber than what the shield can protect are used; such as tank cannons.
Despite this, they can still be used to cover an ally's retreat or generally just hold off assaults when used in large numbers.
When used in large numbers, the combined effect of all shields becomes much more difficult to break. This can still be accomplished however. This factor is the main reason they remain effective against the Hyperion Federation; which generally has fewer numbers than other factions. HF weapons tend to be far more powerful though.
They are also less reliable than a normal armament. This is due to the complexity of the shield projector in question. If dirt gets into the shield projector, it will probably render the device unusable. It can be cleaned in this case, but under battlefield conditions, this is nearly impossible.
