Virtual Universe Boson
Simulated virtual universe of the Hyperion Federation which increases in volume due to increases in popularity.
The 'Boson' virtual universe is set in a large game. In this game, the only rule is to construct a machine, using primitive technology, to achieve unpowered flight for at least 10 s (contestants are allowed to use the power of their own bodies) before other teams or time runs out, whichever comes first. Many come to the Boson universe for fun. This is why it is increasing in volume - because many more come to the universe.
However, the Boson universe differs significantly from most other virtual universes and real life wiith its differing laws of physics, that can sometimes change curing a game for an extra challenge and to make it more interesting. These changes will not have any impact on the physiology of any species, as a small field is placed around them that sets the laws of physics back to default.
To make the games more fair, handicaps are given to some species. For example, Drath are capable of flight in the real universe, so they are not allowed to use their wings in Boson. Yunkad are also force-limited.
It does seem to be most popular in the cultures of the Leosus Federation specifically, as well as some Data Fae, but the universe can be experienced from virtually all over the HF. Still, the player base is still only in the several-million compared to the immense population of the HF itself.
The Boson universe is named after a class of quantum particles which primarily exist to exert forces on other quanta.
