Archeron
Described as the river of woe and waters of sin, the river Archeron is one of the major parts of the Infernal landscape. It provides a means of transportation, dividing areas, and much more.
Geography
The river Archeron starts somewhere in the Thicket of Thorns before entering Inferno. It does many twists and turns on its way, flowing through Hades in several directions, making it one of the best but confusing landmarks in the city.
Eventually, the rivers Styx and Cocytus empty into the Archeron in Abaddon before it eventually goes back into the Thicket.
Localized Phenomena
The waters of the river can reflect the regrets and doubts in someone in contact with it. Visions or even life-like hallucinations will show the victim the sins of their past and turn their own guilt on them. This might wither the soul, even to the point of destruction, but the river doesn't want to cause death. It wants to cause suffering.
Those native to Inferno seem to be immune to the worst of these effects. Possibly, they just don't regret the terrible things they've done.
