maisqu

A vegetable found in the woodlands which resembles an Earth artichoke or thistle. The edible part of the maisqu is the flower, particularly the heart of the bud before it comes into bloom. It remains edible after the thistle-like purple flower emerges, but the tender bud is preferred. The bloomed flower's petals are more often used to create a tea, used to boost the immune system.
The maisqu heart is often preserved in a light brine, and sometimes with an oil. It is used in salads or accompanying other meat or vegetable dishes.

Dimensions

The bud can grow to eight inches in diameter before blooming. The plant itself, however, only grows about a foot tall.
