Slag Rock

Slag Rock is believed to be the result of the detonation of unknown earth elemental magical superweapons that caused the ultimate fall of of the ancient civilizations entombed in this area. 

It is a weak, porous rock resembling volcanic pumice that often has other ancient (and valuable) materials intermixed. It is relatively easily excavated or eroded and tends to be found in areas where ancient ruins are close to the surface. 

Much of prospecting is picking through piles of slag, either digging surface minerals looking for evidence of deeper veins or what sifting what lies at the bottom of a creek bed.
