Lord Defender, Northern Imesse
The Lord Defender of Kingdom of Imesse is a title given to the designated leader of the armies (and navies) of the northern half of the High Kingdom of Imesse. The title is given by the High King, and can be revoked at any time. The amount of time that any given lord or noble holds the title can often be attributed to the success of that lord or noble in winning battles or conquering enemies.
Typically, the holder of the title of Lord Defender commands all forces of the northern realm, but as there is often no actual standing army during peacetime, the Lord Defender is tasked with the command, control and training of the King's Companies. These are units of foot and cavalry raised, trained and funded by the High King and utilized exclusively for the advancement of the High King's interests.
