Alien Squids from Outer Space: Are they real?

Recently on the shores of Aztlan a strange corpse was found. It was a squid of a type never before seen by human eyes. Nine limbs rather than ten or eight and three feet in total length from head to tentacle. It had a body more akin to a fish rather than just a head and the mouth was near the front of the creature rather than located between the legs.   Representatives from the College of Biogenesis say that there is no creature like this in their records, though also admit it could well be an undocumented creation made by some rogue biogenesist in their private lab or on-board a ship. Or it could simply be a new species of animal. After all, after the birth of krakens 300 years ago a full exploration of the ocean’s depths has proven near impossible. Indeed, we know more about the stars of distant systems than we do about our own oceans. Who knows what could be down there in the murky depths?   There is, of course, a third theory. One not given by any professional biogenesist or biologist but simply by common people with limited knowledge on the subject of animal life. Aliens.   I am sure we’ve all heard the stories by now. Alien squids from another world have begun trafficking with humans. Hidden away under human-like puppets they pilot from within or otherwise kept secret by some cabal of powerful world leaders. These preposterous stories insist that such creatures are living among us. Watching and studying us for known reasons and reporting back to some far off star they call home.   Such conspiracies have been commonplace in the last few decades and have only grown in popularity over the years as a loud minority of uninformed call for action against our supposed deep sea menace.   But where do these stories come from? Beyond the over active imagination of the ignorant, of course. Well, as it turns out, stories of ancient squid people aren’t as novel as one would first assume.   As it turns out there have been similar stories across history. Some older records kept by the Cult of the Spider talk about a vaguely aquatic race of “demons” that once hunted the Spider Goddess across the stars. There are, of course, real demons in the world but they do not live in the deep sea. Most scholars agree this to be a reference to the Astral Plane, described often as a “sea of stars and lights” in ancient writings, and the dark ethereal denizens within that harass gods and goddesses the world over.   The practice of taking human hosts is backed up by some ancient tribal societies in the southern regions of Aztlan where “many armed creatures” would climb into the heart of a person and take over their minds. This is, again, referential to demons and their long history of coercing humans into becoming their living vessels via possession. Strangely in these tales the so-called “sea-gods” were described as benevolent. Teaching them how to wield magic. The idea that demons taught the first wizards is a widespread one, though one would be hard pressed to describe the relationship between demons and humans as beneficial, much less benevolent.   Then, of course, you have the ever increasing number of modern sightings. Sailors have reported seeing strange lights at the bottom of the sea for at least a century if not more. What exactly these lights are said to be varies from source to source. Some say it looks to be some sort of deep sea city. Others describe some large vessel that shoots through the water at speeds impossible for even the fastest modern ship. These stories spread and soon every island in the world had at least a few people who believe in some sort of ancient alien civilization living in the deepest parts of the ocean.   It is, of course, unlikely to say the least. With the size and ferocity of krakens still lurking in the depths it is hard to imagine any civilization could survive down there, even if the extreme cold and pressure was somehow trivialized by some advanced magic we do not yet have.   So what are the lights? Deep sea volcanic activity seems likely, at least according to geologists. It could also be some breed of bio-luminescent sea creature not yet recorded, or even one created by the College of Biogenesis that escaped captivity. Or perhaps a new deep sea ship being tested out by the College of Arcane Metallurgy. There are boundless logical explanations available, so the idea that people cling to the idea of strange, wayward aliens living in our oceans boggles the mind.   In all likelihood there is nothing nefarious in our oceans. At least nothing that humankind didn’t put there ourselves.   Written by Huemac Zopaltecatl
