Death Day
Originally called Rebirth Day or Resurrection Day, Death Day is the celebration of one’s death and subsequent reanimation. Originally practiced by those who worship the Spider Goddess this personal holiday is now celebrated everywhere reanimation is a legal practice, which incorporates much of the world outside Aztlan.
The date in which one is killed and reanimated is considered one’s Death Day, though the term Death Day is misleading as it is not meant to be the celebration of one’s death but of their returning from the dead. Death Day is generally regarded as catchier though, and thus has caught on.
Unlike with birthdays a Death Day is not a celebration of the individual’s life but more a celebration of the power that gave them a second chance at it. As such Death Days are celebrated by offering one’s services to the community. Chiefly by volunteering at the nearest Spider Cult temple to perform chores and work to help the temple along. Otherwise volunteering for community services such as cleaning up local parks, working at soup kitchens, and other forms of menial labor can be done. The importance is on giving back to the community that made your second chance at life possible.
At the end of the work day the undead celebrator will return home and cook a meal for the rest of their family. While undead cannot eat normal food this is symbolic of one’s commitment to providing for their family and loved ones even now in death. After the meal everyone thanks the undead for the food and gives a short speech about how important the undead person is in their life and how thankful they are to have them back. A sort of reverse eulogy. After that the family retires for the evening. Usually to have some quiet family bonding time playing board games or sharing stories.
